Personal Statement
As a young person, I developed a love for animals through my involvement in 4H. From the
beginning I took on the challenge of showing poultry, and that experience has stayed with me
ever since.
I remember spending late nights caring for the chickens I raised, making sure they were healthy
and comfortable. When one of my birds fell ill, I didn't hesitate to research and implement a
treatment plan, determined to ensure that my animal made a full recovery, even if they did not
recover. Through such experiences, I learned the importance of dedication, responsibility, and
compassion for all living creatures. It ignited a passion in me for animal welfare and inspired me
to pursue a career in the biological sciences.
Now, as I apply to Northern Arizona University's graduate program in wildlife biology, ecology,
and evolutionary biology, I bring with me a deep commitment to the well-being of all living
things. I am excited to combine my love of animals with my academic pursuits and make a
positive impact on the natural world.
My academic achievements, combined with my curiosity and enthusiasm for the natural world,
led me to pursue research opportunities in the field of ecology. Through these experiences, I have
developed a strong foundation in ecological concepts and fieldwork techniques. As a proven
biological researcher with a passion for wildlife biology and evolutionary biology, I am excited
to submit my application to Northern Arizona University's graduate program in these fields.
Throughout my undergraduate studies, I have demonstrated a strong aptitude for learning and
excelled in my coursework in molecular biology and natural resources. I have a keen interest in
the intersection of these fields with wildlife biology and ecology and have pursued numerous
research opportunities to further my understanding of these subjects.
My experience conducting research on the cryptic microbes underlying ecological and
evolutionary processes of Arizona’s ecosystems has equipped me with valuable technical and
analytical skills. I can apply these skills to my graduate studies and make meaningful
contributions to ongoing research projects.
My goal is to become a reliable and competent biological researcher in the biological sciences
field. I am eager to take advantage of the many resources and opportunities offered by Northern
Arizona University's graduate program to further my education and contribute to the scientific
community.
My strong academic background, passion for the subject matter, and commitment to excellence
make me an ideal candidate for NAU’s wildlife ecology program. I look forward to the
opportunity to contribute to the academic community at Northern Arizona University.
