Iberian Lynx

Characteristic
The Iberian Lynx is a species of carnivorous
mammal and a feline much bigger than a
domestic cat .It is characterized by its
robust appearance, its long legs and its
short tail with a black point at the end and
it usually move in moments of danger or
excitement.

The most lynx have white fur on the chest,


abdomen and things .They have long
whiskers and they have a type of blank
feather on the tips of their ears which
allows them to hear well. Its tail is small
than the other felines it measures between
2 and 6 inches. The body of a male weighs
12.5 kg, measures 85 cm long and 46 cm
high and its maximum measurement is 110
cm.

Eating Habits
The Iberian lynx is the only carnivorous
considered a specialist in the hunting of
rabbits. This species provides the 80 to 90%
of its diet.

Habitat
The Iberian lynx is found in Mediterranean
forest and scrub habitats, in areas very
isolated from human activity.

Population and distribution


There are 1.111 specimens in the Iberian
Peninsula: in Portugal there are 140 and in
Spain there are 971 specimens.

In 2002, the Iberian lynx population only


has 94 specimens. The species was
disappearing very fast, but it could be
saved with a lot of help and in 2020 it
reached 1,111 specimens.
WHY IT IS IN EXTINCTION?

1 It doesn’t adapt well to charges in its


habitat and in its prey
2 Their habitat has been transformed by
humans and much of it has been destroyed
3 Their habitat has also been more affected
by problems such as natural disasters
4 The poaching, illegal species trafficking,
the use of poisons, accidents, threat of
diseases…

HOW TO HELP
1 We can try to respect their habitat and
not destroy it
2 we can create a reserve so that hunters
cannot hunt them try to prevent illegal
trafficking of species.
3 We can divert the roads that pars near of
the habitats to avoid accidents
