THE IBERIAN LYNX

Where do they live?


They are endemic of to the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe.

What do they look like?


Their leopard-like spots particularly distinguish it from its cousin, the Eurasian Lynx and it
is also smaller, with a head and body length between 85 and 110 centimetres.
What do they eat?
The Iberian lynx mostly depends on wild rabbits to feed, but it will also eat ducks, young
deer and partridges if rabbit densities are low.

How long is a female lynx pregnant?


A female Iberian Lynx wil be pregnant for a period of sixty days.
What is the habitat of the Iberian linx?
The Iberian Lynx was once widespread all over the peninsula but it is now restricted to
very small areas, mainly mountainous areas covered with vegetation.

Which are the main reasons for its extinction?


In recent years the number of Iberian Lynx has fallen by 400. The main causes are: loss of
habitat, reduction in prey and high non-natural mortality from road kills, predator control
and hunting.
