NOISE EMISSION REQUIREMENT ‘The EPA also requires that motorcycles built fler January 1, 1983 comply with applicable noise emission standards for one year ot 6,000 km (3,720 rriles) after the time of sale Io the ulimate purchaser, when operated and maintained according to the instructions rrovides. WARRANTY COMPLIANCE Comptiance with the terms of the Distributor's Limited Warranty for Honda Motoroycle Emission Control System is necessary in order to keep the emission system warranty in effect SOURCE OF EMISSION “The combustion process produces carbon monoxide (GO), oxldes of nitrogen (NOx) ané hydrocarbons (HC). Control of carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen and hydrocarbons is very important because, under certain conditions, they react 10 form photochemical smog when subjected to sunlight. Carbon monoxide does not react in the same way, but Is toxic, Fuel evaporation algo produces HC emissions, Honda Motor Co., Ltd, ulizes various systems, to reduce carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen and hydrocarbons, CRANKCASE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM ‘The engine is equipped with a closed crankcase system te prevent discharging crankcase emissions into the alrmosphere. Blow-by {98 is returned to the combustion chamber through the air cleaner and thrall body. AIR. CLEANER HROTTLE BODY / FRESH AIR BLOWSY GAS, 1-53 GENERAL INFORMATION EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM ‘The exhaust emission contol system is composed of a pulse secondary alr supply system and an oxidation catalytic converter PGM-FI sysiom, No adjustment should be rade except idle speed adjustment with the throtle stop screw. The exhaust emission control system is separate from the crankcase emission control system, SECONDARY AIR SUPPLY SYSTEM ‘The pulse secondary air supply system introduces fitered air into the exhaust gases in the exhaust port. Fresh air is drawn into the ‘exhaust port by the function of the PAIR (Pulse Secondary Air Injection) control solenoid valve. This charge of fresh air promotes burning of the unburned exhaust gases and changes a considerable amount of hydrocarbons and ‘carbon monoxide into relatively harmless carbon gioxide and water vapor. ‘The teed valve prevents reverse air flaw through the systern. The PAIR control solenoid valve is operated by the solenoid valve. The solenoid valve is controlled by the ECM, and the fresh air passage is openediclosed according fo the running condition (ECT? IATITPNMAP sensor and engine revolution), No adjustments to the secondary alr supply system should be made, although periodic inspection of the components is recommended, PAIR CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE PAIR CHECK VALVE EXHAUST PORT } Lower Leve. —>| RECOMMENDED ENGINE OIL: Pro Honda GNé 4-stroke oil (U.S.A. and Canada) or an equivalent API service classification: SG or higher (except olls labeled as oneray conserving on the circular ‘API service label) Viscosity: SAE 10W-30 JASO T 803 standard: MA NOTE Other viscosities shown inthe chart may be used when | 30-20 AB—9 jo 20 30-40 30 ate the average température in your riding area is within the tas 83 8a io oF indicated range.
