Explain that this is a tournament for bonus points
Self-Evaluation I modified this lesson for 6th and 7th period. Since I wanted
them to be back on schedule together, I thought it would be a
good idea to not do the tic-tac-toe activity to work through
the notes and necessary material. I think this was a good idea. I
was able to work through the content and assign the same
worksheets to both classes so they are on schedule. In both
classes, we will be reviewing the second worksheet and then
moving on. As far as the activity goes, I think it was okay. I don;t
know if there were better ways to present it and that’s where I
lost students or the other main reason I think they may have
been confused was because the assignment was a bit
confusing. The questions were a bit more advanced and
required more thinking than they are used to so I found that a
lot of them were asking a lot of questions. This isn’t a bad thing
but I did feel that they had overused me a little bit. I want them
to start thinking for themselves and that won;t happen if I am
constantly telling them how to complete the work. Some of this
can be avoided in the way that I answer questions or continue
to question them. I am learning to balance pushing them to
think for themselves with helping them and not having them
give up. They have consistently not been pushed for a while
from what I understand, so this is new for them and they will
have to ease into it. I have now picked up 5 out of the 6
classes I will eventually get and I feel like it’s going well. It
makes the day go a lot faster and I feel more fulfilled in the
work that I’m doing. It makes it more fun to show up and be
involved in what the students are doing. I am enjoying getting
to know the eighth grade students better and have a chance
to try new things with them.
