COMMON CRIMES AND ASSOCIATED PUNISHMENT.


1. Theft:- This is the crime of stealing something from a person or place.
Stealing or theft is a serious crime against God and humanity. To engage
in any form of theft whether robbery or burglary is a violation against the
law of God and man
Association Punishment
The culprit in the Traditional society will be required to
1. Return the stolen items
2. Publicly disgrace
3. Excommunicated unit tie pays fine.
Modern Punishment
i. He can be fined or
ii. Sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour
2. Rape: - This is sexual assault or contact involving the use of threats force
or intimidation with a person who do not want it. This crime of rape
especially among teenagers is becoming rampant in Nigeria today inspite
of the numerous checks in the society.
Associated Punishment
I. Rape as a tieinous crime that is capable of damaging the victim attracts the
punishment of long term imprisonment without option of fine
II. In the traditional societies the culprit could be heavily fined,
excommunicated or ostracized or banished.
3. Drug trafficking is a serious social problem facing mankind the world over.
It has given Nigeria a poor image and reputation. The proliferation of illicit
drugs is the bane of over modern society.
Associated Punishment
I. The offender’s one confiscation of the hard drugs
II. Burning of hard drugs in the presence of the drug barons
III. Jail term or imprisonment of being behind bars for 10 years without
without option of fine
IV. Suspected drug addicts are sometimes detained for days weeks, or months.
Some of them with thudded drugs in their body system die there.
4. Human trafficking: is degrading shameful and inhuman trade carried out
by evil capitalists in our midst.
Associated Punishment
Imprisonment without option of fine raining from 5 years to 10 years
5. Murder:- This is the crime of killing somebody deliberately or unlawfully
on intentional killing of another person. Murder can also be homicide.

Punishment
Those found guilty will pay with their life. This is maximum or capital
punishment. No imprisonment. No fine to be paid.

WEEK 3
6. Food contamination / Adulteration.
This denotes food items that have gone bad as a result of long stay, expiration or
contamination from poisonous elements or delay. Examples are beverages,
processed sardines, Geisha, wine / ignore and others Agencies for controlling of
the quality of the products and the sake and consumption of the food items in the
Nigerian markets.
i. Standard organisation of Nigeria (SON)
ii. National Agency for food, Drug Administration and control
(NAFDAC)
Association Punishment
i. Confiscation of these contaminated food items
ii. Detention of the culprits
iii. Burning or burying of the contaminated or adulterated food items
iv. Imprisonment of the offenders.
