Name:

First Conditional
A Read the text.

Q: If I stop eating snacks, will I lose weight?
A: It depends on which snacks you eat. If you eat lots of junk food, you will gain weight. Once
you stop eating them, you will start losing weight. You can eat between meals if the snacks
are healthy. Try eating fruit and vegetables.
Q: M y daughter has gone on many diets but she doesn’t lose much weight. This affects her
badly. She just gives up. What can she do?
A: Perhaps the problem is that she isn’t exercising. If she exercises a few times a week, she
will lose weight. The moment that she starts losing weight, she will feel better about herself
and she won’t give up.
Q: M y dietician says I need to go on a diet. I am fat and I smoke. This is affecting my health.
Where should I start?
A: If you stop smoking, you will have less health problems. The first thing to do is stop
smoking. Then start cutting calories, eating healthy food, and exercising. If you don’t do all
three, your health won’t improve!
