BAUER P system: processing of air, He, Ne, Ar, Kr, N2, CH4
The quality of the highly compressed air from the compressor isn't able to cope with most of the
demands, because it is saturated with 100% moisture, has oil parts from the compressor unit and
it is polluted with orodus and taste substances. The purifying is also very important for the
avoidance of corrosion, soiling, icing up and the formation of micro-organisms. BAUER-P-
systems adsorb moisture, oil vapours, carbon-hydrogen based gas residue, carbon monoxide,
carbon dioxide etc. according to cartridge selection. For more information refer to chapter „filter
cartridges.
All requirements of the European Standard DIN/EN12021 are fulfilled or even undercut by Bauer-
purification systems.
The compressed medium is first sent through the mechanical oil and water separator. Here,
condensated parts can be separated from the air and gas stream. The now 100 % saturated and
oil steam including medium streams over a non-return valve into the adsorber. Here are taken the
medium in the first layer, the molecular sieve, water steam and oil aerosols through adsorption
away.
The following active coal removes the oil steams, as well as smells and tastes out of the air/gas
stream. Through a further molecular sieve and a particle filter the so cleaned medium leaves the
filter cartridge. A pressure maintaining - non-return valve, which is included in the tubing of the P-
Filter system behind the filter, cares for a constant minimum pressure in the system and takes
care for a optimal purification.
All P-Filter systems except P21 and P31can be optionally equipped with our patented SECURUS
safety system. For P21 and P31 we recommend the B-Timer.
The SECURUS-System takes care about the H2O saturation of the filter cartridge through testing
the moisture in the molecular sieve with taking care about the operating conditions, e.g.
temperature and shows in the display of the COMP-TRONIC / B-CONTROL control a warning
right in time, that you should use a new cartridge.
If the cartridge is saturated and not removed in time, the SECURUS system turns off the unit
automatically and shows that also optically..
SECURUS guarantees the optimal dryness of the breathing air according to DIN/EN12021 and
the 100% usage of the cartridge.

Rises the pureness of the air, by changing the CO parts into CO2. Especially recommended
additional catalysis if the unit has an consumption engine or if location caused polluted air could
be taken in.
With filter systems P 21/30/41 to P 60/61 a special cartridge is used.
For filter systems P 80/81 and P100/101 an additional filter is connected downstream.
All filter cartridges reach or andercut the limits of the DIN/EN12021 and the European Medicine
Book.

In our environment, the CO2 content is constantly increasing. Bauer Kompressoren offers you a
very efficient means of cleaning the air from CO2.
Through a sophisticated by-pass system the air taken in by the compressor is passed through the
AERO-GUARD unit. Nur Only two thirds of the air pass through the cartridge, which adsorbs the
CO2 . Thus the CO2 content is reduced to a third of the value of the intake air – far below the very
strict limits of the DIN12021. At the same time the AERO-GUARD reaches an extremely long
filter lifetime.

Negative environmental influence and enhanced standards for breathing air quality like the
DINEN12021 put ever increasing demands on the operators of filling stations.
By means of the inserted test tube, the liwith values of oil vapor (alternative via Impaktor), CO2 ,
CO and water are measured at the same time. The test set is designed to make faulty
measurements by incorrect handling almost impossible: before the test cycle no calibration with
acompressed air tube is necessary.
The pressure reducer and special nozzles provide a constant flow and guarantee an optimum

Filling stations are used for fast and economical filling of breathing air bottles.
With the modular construction of all panels and controls right to the filling connection BAUER
COMPRESSORS can offer a customized solution for every situation and your special needs.
The filling panels are installed separately from the unit. With standard “open“ i.e. not sound
absorbing units – and desired local separation, which means that the filling panel is located in
another room, e.g. in the sales room or the testing area.
You have got the choice from many alternative BAUER filling panels.
Every model you can choose is made out of tested BAUER components, which offers you the
best possible SECURITY and a special COMFORT. If you need some help to put your filling
station individually together we will be there for you.
Beside the delivery of your compressor the fill amount, the speed and the space are important
factors.

Storage

The only way to use the storage advantage in a
optimal way. The automatic consist of a pressure
maintaining – and a non-return valve and
integrated pressure switch or pressure sensor,
which turn the compressor unit on or off, when
needed. When using this automatic a cascade-
filling switch is not needed.
Controlling, manually
• Shut off valves (5): Here is after reaching the
same pressure in the to be filled bottle and the 5
bottle rack the shut off valve to be shut and the
compressor has to be turned on by hand. This
solution is only recommended, if the unit is
operated by instructed personal only!

Complete filling stations serve for a fast and rational filling of breathing air storages. The main
components are the compressor unit, storage, automatic switch device or shut off valves and the
filling panel (you can find a detailed functional description in the chapter filling “panels”).
The ‘External Filling Panel’ can be mounted as a separate filling panel on the wall and can also
be used, equipped with a remote control, for the installation in another room.
Please take care of the different combination options with the automatic switch device as well as
the BAUER Control COMP-TRONIC and B-CONTROL. You can find the description in the certain
chapters.

Advantages
The automatic switching device allows a fast
automatic refilling of one or more pressure tanks
on a filling panels from an intermediate storage
and from the compressor at the same time.
Pressure tanks have always priority, which
means that the storage and the compressor are
always filling the pressure tank first. If the
pressure tank is full the intermediate storage is
filled up by the compressor until a new empty Compressor Consumer
bottle is connected on the filling panel.
Function
After connecting the breathing air bottle to the C
filling panel and opening the bottle and filling
valves, compressed air flows from the storage
battery into the bottle. This continues until
pressure balance is reached between bottle and
storage battery. The compressor starts
automatically and fills the bottle to the max.

The unit consists of a pressure reducer with
integrated pressure sensor which starts or stops
the compressor. This unit replaces a cascade
filling arrangement. The pressure gauges
monitor the pre and after-pressure, the sensor
controls the compressor.

The pressure gauges shown below are hermetically sealed, filled with glycerine and have
internal pressure compensation. We recommend these pressure gauges for high dynamic
loads and very high pressures, vibrations and pulsation.
The liquid in the gauge dampens the effect of vibrations and pulsations on the pointer. This
ensures a steady and precise reading and longer gauge life.
The components of the gauge are tightly sealed to prevent condensation from forming, which
could then cause corrosion.
The pressure gauges have a solid steel plate housing made of CrNiSteal with a pressure
discharge orifice in the rear wall of the housing. A plastic cover closes this opening.

Pressure switches
Pressure switches are components for automatic pressure control of the compressor unit and the
pressure tank. They control e.g. oil pressure, intermediate and final pressure. When the adjusted
pressure is reached the electrical contact closes or opens as required.
The typical pressure switch for the filling procedure is a piston pressure switch. It is used to
control the final pressure during the filling procedure (breathing air) in combination with a semi-
automatic control system. Adjustable switch-off pressure.

For fully electronic compressor control systems pressure sensors are used for analog inputs
instead of pressure switches. The sensors are adjusted for our COMP-TRONIC control unit.
The measuring values of the pressure sensors are displayed in bar or psig, and can be evaluated
as operating, maintenance, prewarning or error messages.

BAUER Safety valves control the pressure absolutely reliable – for your security. Safety valves
serve according to the TRB403 regulation of monitoring the pressure tank. They have to be
calculated according to this regulation, to prevent a more then 10 % overstepping of the
permissible operating pressure.

Shut-off valves
High pressure ball valves have little or no restriction to allow for a very high flow rate. The
gaskets are suited for oil free and dry air. The handle shows the ON– OFF position and is easy to
actuate.
Temperature of the medium: -20°C to + 100°C.
Repair kits (as shown in the table) are available for leaking valves.
Pressure maintaining valves ensure a correct and safe function of the air or gas
compressor and of the air and gas processing systems.
They also reduce the dynamic pressure load on the purifying filters.
We recommend to check the pressure maintaining valves every 500 operating hours or at
least once a year for correct function. Every 1000 operating hours or every 2 years the
inner parts like gaskets, seals, o-rings and pistons have to be replaced. Please refer to our
repair kits.
With BAUER Pressure Regulators a very high regulation accuracy is reached in the high
pressure technique for middle and higher flow performance because of the pressure relieving
valve construction.
The Regulator distinguish through delay-free reaction, almost insensitive against prepressure
changing, tight at zero flow and high wear-resistance. The regulation is not temperature related,
because spring stressed Pressure Regulators are used. An integrated floating valve allows the
down regulating of the secondary pressure in closed pressure systems.
Pressure Regulators are used, to lower the medium from a higher pressure to a lower , because
of the respective valve construction a corresponding volume stream is created. Further as pilot
pressure regulator from a vantage point to control a dome pressure regulator (secondary
pressure).
Standard Features:
The selected high solid materials are standing for a long life. All other possible changes of the
material, like corrosion or wear are avoided. So the precision and function remain uninterfered.
Housing and spring housing are made of Dural or Aluminium bronze, the valve spindle and the
valve seat are made of Nirosteal. A catchy knob is used for the stage less pressure setting.
Note:
We absolutely recommend to ensure your secondary pressure install a BAUER Safety valve in
your piping. You can find product information’s and order-numbers in the safety valve chapter.
The pressure must be set on the pressure of the user, e.g. a filling panel.
Please pay attention to our safety valve instructions.
To prevent from damage by particles we recommend the right particle filters ≤ 20 µm for our
pressure reducers e.g. part no. 060490

CAUTION
Hoses can be ordered for various pressure ranges, as well as with different
connections.
CAUTION
Continuous pressure in the hoses considerably shortens their lives. It is recommended
not to use them for this kind of application. When using the hoses, follow the regulations
of the respective state or country.
WARNING
• When installing hose lines, make sure they are correctly mounted according to the following
picture.
• When installing hoses please attempt to make the run of the hose as simple as possible.
• Under pressure, hoses can change slightly in length; therefore plan to allow a little slack in each
hose.
• Don’t twist the hose tightening while the end fitting is under pressure, the hose will return to its
original shape and the end fittings may loosen.
• Where necessary, use elbow or angle pieces to eliminate very small bend radii.

Bauer high pressure hoses are designed for breathing air application. They are highly flexible and
fitted with a protection at one end, and a handle on the other end and stainless steel fittings on
both ends.
All hoses and fittings are 100% pressure tested, have a 20.000 cycle approval with respective
certificate.
Bauer filling hoses feature a very high certified temperature range.
They are available as option with pressure test certificate 10204-3.1B.

We only use tube fittings from world-famous Companies. We use these fittings for a
outer diameter tubes from 6 – 42 mm. The tube diameters are use for different
pressures. Therefore have a look at the following table.
Quality features:
Tube fittings, nuts and cuttings rings are normally supplied in Steel. All fittings are protected
against corrosion by a thin phosphate coating. Available in galvanized or stainless steel at
additional price. When ordering, please state desired type. The fittings are made according to the
latest DINstandards.
Mounting:
Cut the tube at a right angle, de-burr and clean the tube ends. Fit nut and compression ring,
press tube against the fitting and tighten nut until the compression ring grips the tube. Then
tighten nut by one more turn. Undo nut and check cutting of the ring in the tube.
CAUTION: If the above procedure is not observed, the nominal pressure and the lifetime of the
connection can be reduced. Tube may slip out of the connector.
