Texts can be compared even when they are different to reveal a similar theme. This is the case in
“Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens and “The Test” by Angelica Gibbs. Where the Crawdads
Sing is a novel about Kya who lies in the North Carolina marsh, the novel tells her story of being
discriminated for living in a marsh. The story of “The Test” is about an African American maid taking
a driving test, but unfortunately coming across a racist driving instructor. The stories share similar
perspectives of different characters since both discriminate people different to them using
descriptive language, Colloquial language, Tricolon, and Voice.
