HOW TO GROW YOUR INSTAGRAM

Here we will be discussing different knowledge about social media and how
to grow.
This will be perfect for anyone who has a business or for any individual who
wishes to grow their platform for things such as influencing.
This is a good way to build up a platform of good engagement and reliable
followers.

INSTAGRAM:
Instagram is a social media account where you can share your creativity, businesses,
personal life, stories, news, videos and so much more.
For you to grow an Instagram, you must understand how Instagram works. think of
it like this Instagram has a rule book, and in order to grow … You must play in
Instagram’s rule book to get good growth.

THE ALGARITHM

Need to know…
The algorithm is very complex what you do need to know is that there are different
layers to it. Such as feed ranking, searching and exploring, Reels, Stories, the list goes
on…
The Instagram algorithm changes frequently. It is constantly changing and adapting
based on new data from the app.

Data that can affect the algorithm:

- Your behaviour
- Your follower’s behaviour
- Instagram new features that launch

So, if these things change then you will see a change in the algorithm.

Important: one important thing that you should understand is that Instagram wants
its users to stay on the platform.

now that you've got a fair understanding about what the algorithm is we're going to
discuss how to grow with the algorithm.

For you to grow with the algorithm, you must create high quality on brand content
that people want to see in their Instagram feed. Creating strong content also
increases the likelihood that your account will be discovered by non-followers. From
the search and explore page. I'm going to talk more in depth about what this exactly
means.
CREATING HIGH QUALITY ON-BRAND CONTENT THAT PEOPLE WANT TO
SEE

What does this mean? This means that all the content that you're posting on your
Instagram page needs to be high quality.

Improving your content

So, when you're taking pictures, make sure that the background is clear. An example
of a background not being clear is of which you were stood, where there was a lot of
mess.

Making sure that all your pictures are high quality, not blurry. You can improve your
photo quality by either using a better camera or you can use a better device to take
your photos on. For example, using a latest iPhone or upgrading your camera or
getting a new camera lens. Another option for you is looking at your settings when
taking pictures.

Once your photo has been taken, you can also edit your photos using apps or
software on your computer. This way you can change and alter things which aren't
good in the photo. For example, maybe you've taken a picture and you want to erase
something in the background. You can use an app or software which allows you to do
this. Or maybe taking a picture and it was too dark. You can use an app or software
to brighten up the picture. You can use different apps for effects to make them look.
Unique and different.

You can improve your photo quality. By sticking to a feed. What I mean by this is
having an aesthetic to each photo that you're posting. For example, maybe your a
bikini business, so your aesthetic would be beaches, outdoor sunshine, summer vibes.
A way for you to stick to an aesthetic and sticking to a feed, would be constantly
taking pictures in these types of areas. Eventually your feed would consist of the
same aesthetic. So instead of just taking photos in a studio or just with a blank
background, Instead, you could take pictures in the city. In a nice restaurant. In a
museum. In a pretty village. By the beach. By graffiti walls. It all depends on which
aesthetic goes with your branding. But the whole point of this is improving the quality
of your photos, not looking basic, not looking simple… but high quality.

PROVIDING VALUBLE CONTENT

The content that you're making needs to be valuable, so people are sharing talking
about it, and it proves that it has interest.
There are different types of value categories. There is entertaining, educational,
inspirational and relatable. So, you're probably thinking, how can your content deliver
on one of these things? You need to know the industry you're in and understand what
people are looking for. A good example of this would be if you're a beauty business,
you can create content which is entertaining, such as make up videos. A video of a
girl putting makeup on for Halloween, which is eye catching. Another example is, if
you're a business selling clothing, you won't be sharing things such as blog posts,
politics or latest news.

2
When you do all these things Instagram will see that your account is worthy to be
shared to non-followed accounts. This means that you will see your post on
Instagram Explore page. People will also see your post when they're scrolling through
their feed. People can also see your posts when they're looking through stories.

INSTAGRAM GATOGORIES
Instagram puts accounts into different types of categories. So, if you are sticking to
one type of content category, you're most likely to grow on Instagram. For example,
if you're a hair business, everything that you're posting must be about hair. If you're a
clothing business, everything you're posting must be about clothing. If you're an
account which post multiple different things, Instagram is going to find it hard to put
you in a category which will make it hard for you to grow. This is very important
because what you need to understand is that things that you're sharing need to make
sense. You need to stick to one category. A good example for this would be if a hair
account, which has been running for three years, was to sell their account, which the
individual changes the account into a clothing brand. The engagement for that
clothing brand page would be very low. You're probably wondering why. Because
Instagram has put that page into a category of hair. But now the account has been
changed into something completely different, Instagram doesn't know how to treat
this account, so you won't be seen by other people. That is a good example as to why
you should stick to one category.

INSTAGRAM TOOLS
Think of Instagram like a regular business. And what does every regular business do?
They are always in competition. Who are they in competition with? They are in
competition with other businesses. Why are they always in competition? Because they
want to make the most money.
Now think about you being in a competition with another business. What type of
things will you be doing? How will you improve? What things would you do better?
These were the things that Instagram thinks about. Therefore, it's very important for
you to understand that Instagram Is always in competition.
But why is this information so important?
There are other different social media platforms such as Twitter, Snapchat, TickTok.
All these social media platforms are always in competition with each other, so when
one platform brings out to feature another platform will copy it. But they may not
copy it to the T, but they will copy it very similar.

What do you mean that social media PLATFORMS copy each other?
What I mean by this is that Snapchat is a platform where it's based off 10 SEC. 1
minute picture or videos. These are what you call stories. Snapchat doesn't have a
text base such as Twitter does. And Snapchat doesn't have a photo base such as
Instagram does. Tiktok is a video-based Platform.

Going back to what I was saying earlier, those social media platforms are in
competition with each other. Because Instagram see’s Snapchat doing well with their
stories, they decided to bring out a feature themselves, which basically replicated
Snapchat. That is what they have called Instagram stories. Then Instagram, seeing

3
that tiktok, was doing good with their video-based platform. They replicated this idea
and then made Reels.

GROWNG USING TOOLS

A good way for you to grow. Is by posting on Instagram Reels two times a day.
Instagram knows how successful TikTOK was. So, when they made Reels, they
wanted everyone to use that new feature. This is where you come in as an individual.
When Instagram sees an individual using their new feature of Reels, they are most
likely to push you out more to other people. Think of it more like a reward. Like I
said, think of Instagram like a business. A business is in competition. They want their
consumer to buy something. Then when their consumer buys something they are
rewarded…. but rewarded with what? you would be rewarded with a discount code,
but with Instagram. You're rewarded by being pushed out to other people so that you
grow.

So previously discussed about the algorithm. Now the algorithm is being focused on
Instagram's knew amazing feature, which is Reels. That's why you need to take over
this new feature and using it as much as you possibly can.
This is an easy way for you to have organic reach.

With you doing this, more people will discover your page and they will follow and like
your content, then your interactions will be improved.
To create good performing IG reels:
1. Consistency.
2. creating content which is saveable (people saving it means they like it)
3. when you post your Reel, make sure it is posted on Instagram too for more
exposure.

IGTV
This is a good way to gain followers which are long term and will come back to your
account.
People tend to engage more when they can watch something which is lengthy.
If you were a clothing business, a good example for an IGTV would be some people
trying on clothing. Or making your own little show. This could be where people come
on and talk about the latest trends.
Another idea for an IGTV for a hair business would be a video of you doing a clients
hair.
Think of it more like a miniature YouTube video.

Build a relationship with your followers.

As a business, you need to understand that it is not only about making money. You
need to understand that there are people behind these accounts.
The more connected you are with them, the more they will be willing to interact with
your content.
A perfect way to do this is by
going on Instagram live and speaking to them.
ask questions on poll.

4
Instagram stories question an answer.
an example of this would be if you're a clothing brand you can ask your followers
which type of clothing, they like best from your Instagram.

Another way to have a personal approach to your followers is by replying to their

comments, this shows you acknowledge them and what they are saying.

UNDERSTANDING HASHTAGS

So, this is another powerful way to build a long-term sustainable follower. hashtags.
What do I mean by hashtags? Back in the day hashtags where this thing where
people used a bunch of hashtags in the caption and they basically got lots of likes and
follows, that does not work anymore, especially if you're using popular hashtags in
your caption.

That has a more potential to ruin your organic reach than to help you. So better way
to go about hashtags is to use hashtags that are not too crowded not too popular.
Whenever you use a popular hash tag with millions of shares, what you're doing is
that you're putting yourself into a sea with million other sharks, right? But when you
are using medium? search hashtags that are not so popular, you open up yourself to
a potentially getting discovered by new followers because you will stand out in that
less used hash tag. Which ones that shouldn’t be used in this popular hashtag such as
‘photography’ ‘like for like’ ‘love’ don’t use those popular hashtags. Alternative
hashtags would be ‘photographday’ or ‘streetwearclothing’ instead of ‘streetwear’

TIPS
1. Be Consistent:
Consistency is key. Being consistent keeps your account active account gain
followers. Aim to post 2-3 times a week no discussion. I know this may seem
overwhelming but IT WORKS. Here are some tips I used aiding in my consistency:
1. Post regularly: 2-3 times a week. This is a good amount because it
keeps your followers engaged without being spammy.

2. Take your own pictures: take pictures on your own schedule, if

needed buy a camera. Saves you booking photographers.
3. Take pictures in bulk: aim to block a day out of the week dedicated
to taking content. in order to ensure you have enough content to last
the entire week. This is mass producing content. It saves time and
makes being active on social media a lot easier.

Once you are consistent you will begin to gain followers because people are
seeing your account more often.

5
4.Find your niche: The word niche is used a lot. A better way to truly explore your
niche is ask yourself, “what do you do?” “What can you offer?” for me, its fashion, or
shoes. For other is may be music, it may be dancing, it may be art. Whatever the
case, find something you are passionate about AND STICK TO IT!
When you have 1-2 focal points on your page, your users are
more to follow you, and because you stick to one topic (fashion,
beauty, art…) they are likely to stay interactive on your page.

Other Small Tips:

 Take your account off private!!- you are guaranteed not to grow when user
have to wait to follow you. Most times they don’t even bother following private
accounts.
 Refrain from Filters: Filters as in face altering ones. Using things like the
dog filter or filters that add graphics or media to the screen are less likely to
gain attention. These are ok for the story, but not so much your actual feed.

 “Filler Pictures”: A lot of times people add what I call filler pictures in order
to keep their feed aesthetically pleasing. This is perfectly fine, BUT these pages
usually grow slower and attract less engagement.

 Use your insights to maximize the amount of likes you get. Post when you have
the most followers on the app

GROWTH BY OTHER PEOPLE:

Growth from other people. This is when your family or friends share your page tag you or tell
their followers to follow you. This is a very successful way for you to gain engagement.
You can ask your friends to repost your latest upload. That way their follow win can see what
you're posting. Come onto your page and then follow you as well. If they find what you're posting
interesting, they can also share that post to their story or to their friends, and this makes an effect
of other people sharing, and this is what is called gross by other people.

Another example of growth by other people is when someone likes your product, shares it to their
page, and tells other people about it. So you're probably wondering how can you make this
happen? When you get a sale, you can reach out to your customers by email and ask them to post
a picture and tag you in the product that they bought. This will help you grow more on social
media. If multiple people are talking about the product that you are selling.

Being the hot topic. Social media grows very rapidly. Lots of people use different types of social
media platforms. You can be a top Discussion that people are speaking about so more people will
check you out, follow you and engage with you. By announcing that you're releasing something
brand new. Maybe it's the latest drop, or maybe it's a new product.
Another form of growth by other people would be influences when you work with influencers, and
they are promoting your products on their page. You are also gaining more exposure and growing

6
more. Growing your business page is good because it makes you have more brand awareness and
more people most likely to shop with you.

Having familiar or big faces wearing or promoting your brand is another successful way for growth
by other people. These people tend to have fans. Fans are most likely to interact with their
favourite individual. You can use this to your own advantage because their fans will come onto
your page and support your page as well as the individual that they love. That's why there is such
a success rate in working with artists, Influencers, Youtubers, actors and more big people.

Advertising

Has different types of options for you. You can advertise straight through Instagram, which will
bring a wide range of people to your page who will engage with you and follow you. This would
be A format of paid advertising / promotion.
This is good because you can reach the people that would be interested in what you are posting
on your page, so you're most likely to grow at a faster and higher speed. Then just normally
posting pictures.
For this to be successful, you need to understand your target audience and the age range of these
individuals who would be interested in the products that you are promoting on your page. Once
you understand all this information, you can then start advertising your Instagram page and gain
a huge number of followers. All these followers and individuals will be organic. They will be
interested in everything that you post and will be interested in the products that you have as well.
The benefits to this is that you are just not hopelessly posting, but in fact sharing these posts to
people who would engage with it.
