Instruction: Kindly watch the movie Aladdin 2019. List at least three highlighted themes
and explain how it is associated with their culture.

Disney's live-action version of its 1992

animated blockbuster Aladdin,
directed by Guy Ritchie, has a lot of
cultural baggage to overcome. Its idea
and execution have been the subject
of debate and doubt since before
filming even started. The 2019 movie
isn't totally to blame for the criticism.
Even while the original film received
high praise from critics, it was also
rife with detrimental Orientalism and
stereotypical portrayals of Arab
culture.

The highlighted themes that I notice while watching Aladdin 2019 that reflects their culture
were the following:

1. The accuracy of the Arabic representation

A new degree of authenticity in the new film's portrayals of Arabic is also highlighted
by its finer nuances. For instance, many of the written papers seen in the film are exact
and demonstrate the care taken to ensure the Arabic translations are accurate. The
Arabic name Kahaf Al A'jaab, which Jafar uses to locate the "Cave of Wonders," is
accurate. The Genie, played by Will Smith, also unfolds a scroll that is an actual Arab
legal document when he modifies the laws regarding marriage to a princess. These
little adjustments emphasize Disney's good intentions in attempting to steer clear of
negative stereotypes

2. Fashion of Arab regions

It is not unexpected to see that the many Arabic areas are represented in fashion
because Agrabah is a multicultural city where individuals from all over the Arabic
world may interact and conduct business. There are a variety of turbans that display
fashions from the Gulf to the Levant, as well as Afghan "payraans," Indian "sarees,"
Omani daggers, and many more.
 3. Accent

The protagonists, Aladdin and princess Jasmine, both spoke with audible
Americanized accents and had features characteristic of Western culture in the 1992
version of Aladdin, whereas all of the "bad guys" were portrayed with heavy,
annoying Arabic accents, including, at times, the lead antagonist "Jafar." The bi-racial
Naomi Scott, who portrays princess Jasmine, fully fits the description of the character
whose mother is from another region. The new version has addressed some of these
difficulties by hiring a varied cast with backgrounds.
Disney is making strides toward equity and diversity in the film business by using
Arabic actors to play Middle Eastern characters.
