FERRY BOAT CAPTAIN, a middle-aged man
LOCAL VILLAGERS, a group of people in rural China

Setting: The play takes place across various locations in Asia, including Thailand, Cambodia,
Vietnam, Laos, and China.

The scenes are set in different locations, such as a hostel, a ferry boat, and a small village in
rural China.

Act 1

Scene 1

The play opens with JAMES frantically searching for his cat, Whiskers, in his hostel room in
Bangkok, Thailand. He looks under the bed, in the closet, and even in the bathroom. He calls
out Whiskers' name, but there's no response.

JAMES: (frustrated) Whiskers, where are you? Come on, buddy, don't play games with me.

He searches the room one more time before giving up and heading to the reception desk.

Scene 2

At the reception desk, JAMES meets the HOSTEL RECEPTIONIST.

JAMES: Excuse me, have you seen my cat? He's a grey tabby, with green eyes. He's been
missing since last night.

HOSTEL RECEPTIONIST: I'm sorry, sir, I haven't seen any cats around here. But I can ask the
other guests if they've seen him.

JAMES: Thank you. I'm really worried about him.

Scene 3

JAMES is sitting outside the hostel, feeling dejected, when he's approached by a TUKTUK
DRIVER.
TUKTUK DRIVER: You look sad, sir. Can I help you with something?

JAMES: (sighs) My cat is missing. He ran away last night, and I can't find him.

TUKTUK DRIVER: Ah, I see. I know some places around here where cats like to hang out. Maybe
we can go there and see if we can find him.

JAMES: That would be amazing. Thank you so much.

The two of them climb into the tuktuk and head off in search of Whiskers.

Act 2

Scene 1

JAMES and the TUKTUK DRIVER have been searching for hours, but there's no sign of Whiskers.
They stop at a local restaurant for a break.

TUKTUK DRIVER: Don't worry, sir. We'll find your cat. Cats are very smart animals. They know
how to survive on their own.

JAMES: (skeptical) I hope you're right. I don't know what I'll do if I don't find him.

Scene 2

After lunch, JAMES and the TUKTUK DRIVER continue their search, traveling through Cambodia,
Vietnam, and Laos. They ask locals if they've seen Whiskers, put up posters, and even search in
abandoned buildings.

Scene 3

JAMES and the TUKTUK DRIVER arrive at a small village in rural China. They're exhausted, but
JAMES is determined to keep searching.

FERRY BOAT CAPTAIN: You can take the ferry to the other side of the river, and continue your
search from there.

JAMES: Thank you. I really appreciate it.

Scene 4

On the other side of the river, JAMES and the TUKTUK DRIVER search the village. They ask the
locals if they've seen Whiskers, but nobody has. Just as they're about to give up, they hear a
meowing sound coming from a nearby alleyway.
JAMES: (excitedly) That's him! I can hear him!

The two of them rush over to the alleyway and find Whiskers sitting on top of a pile of garbage.

JAMES: (relieved) Whiskers! Thank god I found you! Come here, buddy.

Whiskers jumps down from the pile of garbage and runs towards JAMES, meowing loudly.

JAMES: (happily) I missed you so much, Whiskers. Let's go home.

The TUKTUK DRIVER smiles as he watches JAMES and Whiskers reunite.

TUKTUK DRIVER: I'm glad you found your cat, sir.

JAMES: Thank you so much for your help. I couldn't have done it without you.

Scene 5

JAMES and Whiskers are on the ferry back to the other side of the river. JAMES is holding
Whiskers in his arms, petting him and talking to him.

JAMES: (to Whiskers) You scared me, buddy. I thought I'd lost you forever. But we found each
other again, and that's all that matters. Whiskers purrs contentedly in JAMES' arms. The ferry
boat captain approaches them.

FERRY BOAT CAPTAIN: Glad you found your cat, sir. Have a safe journey back home.

JAMES: (smiling) Thank you. We will.

The ferry boat reaches the other side of the river, and JAMES and Whiskers disembark, ready to
head back home.

Epilogue JAMES and Whiskers are back in their hostel room in Bangkok. JAMES is sitting on the
bed, with Whiskers sleeping in his lap. He looks down at Whiskers and smiles.

JAMES: (whispering) You and me, buddy. We're a team. We'll always find each other, no matter
what.

The play ends with JAMES and Whiskers curled up together, content in each other's company.
