Sarabhai started a project for the
fabrication and launch of an Indian satellite. As a result, the first Indian Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai satellite, Aryabhata, was put in orbit in 1975 from a Russian cosmodrome.
Sarabhai was also instrumental in the establishment of the
Indian Institute of Management ( IIM) in Ahmedabad, and the Gujarat University . He also helped established the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) which was later reorganized into the ISRO Indian Space Research Organisation.
