Q.1. list the different types of paper you know

Ans: Writing paper, drawing paper, tissue paper, brown paper, craft paper ,etc.

2. Mention the different types of dictionaries?

Ans: children dictionaries, pronouncing dictionaries, dictionaries of synonyms, visual


dictionaries, encyclopedic dictionaries, online dictionaries.

3. Make a list of things you find in a dictionary.

Ans: (1) A dictionary tells us what a word means.

(2) A dictionary shows us how a word is spelt.

(3) A dictionary tells us how a word is pronounced.

(4) A dictionary shows us the different forms of the same word.

(5) A dictionary tells us with the help of examples ,how a word is used.

(6) A dictionary lists many other words /phrases related to that word.

(7) A dictionary points out the different meaning of words which have the same
spelling.

(8) A dictionary also tells us the grammatical class to which a word belongs.

Q.3. How will you use an ‘online’ dictionary?

Ans: We just type the word we want to look up and the computer instantly gives us the
meaning ,use, pronunciation ,etc .of the word.

Q.4.Write from the lesson words which have a similar meaning (synonyms):

Ans: (1) unknown-unfamiliar (2) obtainable –available (3) designed –intended

(4) complicated -difficult.
