What is wifi?
Wi-Fi is a wireless networking
technology that uses radio waves to

access. A common misconception is
that the term Wi-Fi is short for "wireless
fidelity," however Wi-Fi is a
trademarked phrase that refers to IEEE
802.11x standards.

When was WiFi invented? WiFi was
invented and first released for
consumers in 1997 when a
committee called 802.11 was
created. This lead to the creation of
IEEE802. 11, which refers to a set of
standards that define
communication for wireless local
area networks (WLANs).
Physical
network
The physical network consists of the
cables (coaxial cable, twisted pair,
fiber optic, and telephone lines) that
connect the different hardware
residing on the network, the adapter
used on computers connected to
the network (hosts), and any
concentrators, repeaters, routers, or
bridges used in the network.
