-Leader: Hello and good morning everyone, we are group 3. Today we will be discussing the
effects of substance abuse on physical and psychological health. But first, let me introduce to
you the members of my group.

*Everyone stands one by one as the leader introduces them*

-Leader: Earl Alarma, our time keeper. Jacob Cabiles, our big idea grabber. Josiah Fernandez,
our doer. Neo Manuevo, our Devil’s Advocate. Angelo Quirino, our Quality control. Leigh Anne
De Guzman, our questioner. Gavrielle Gonzales, our Arbitrator. Chloe Perez, our Facilitator.
Audrey Subaan, our note taker. Keisha Yamauchi, our Monitor. And Theodore Tablizo, the
leader, which is me. Now that were done introducing everyone, I would like to start this topic by
asking, “What are you feeling today?”
Everyone answers briefly – I’m doing okay / I’m fine / I’m fine, thanks / Not bad / I’m okay /
My day started out good / I’m fine, how about you?
(*Walang mag sasabi ng negative / mag patawa*)
-Leader-: I am doing fine as well, thank you.

-Leigh: Now, let’s move on to the main discussion. Can anyone tell me what substance abuse
means?

-Neo: The phrase “substance abuse” refers to a pattern of drug or substance usage that results in
serious issues or suffering. People typically use a certain substance as a stress reliever, but
abusing it to an excessive degree can harm a person’s bodily, mental, and emotional well-being
in addition to their mental health. Additionally, it refers to a pattern of drug or
substance usage that results in serious issues or suffering.

- Leigh: What are some effects of using substances like alcohol and drugs physically and
physiologically
-Jacob: The usage of these drugs may have negative consequences, including blackouts,
poisoning, overdose, and even death. Additionally, it might harm crucial organs like the liver,
heart, and brain. Finally, mention issues like poor memory and learning skills as well as
psychological issues including acute anxiety, psychosis, and sadness.
-Leigh: What are the warning signs of substance use and abuse physically and physiologically
-Angelo: A few examples are:
- Unexplainable change in personality and attitude.
- Sudden mood swings, irritability, spaced-out, and angry outbursts.
- Constantly appears as anxious, paranoid, and fearful for no reason.

-Leigh: How can the use of substances affect our mental health?
-Keisha: You may experience depression, anxiety, and paranoia after using stimulants and
medicines. Cocaine is an example of a stimulant drug that can cause psychosis and schizophrenia
by causing mental health issues and past trauma to return (A mental disorder). Users of Ecstasy
may experience memory issues as a result. Magic mushrooms and other hallucinogens can
exacerbate any mental health condition.

-Leigh: How does addiction affect someone physically?

-Chloe: Addiction can result in numerous long-term health problems, including cancer, a
weakened immune system, and difficulties with the heart, liver, and stomach. Along with
sadness and anxiety, it can also impair a person’s mood, sleep, and other mental health issues.
These effects are primarily brought on by alcohol and drugs.

-Leigh: What is a psychological factor that may lead to substance abuse?

-Gavrielle: Depression, anxiety, post-traumatic disorder, and other mental health issues should
all be taken into account as contributing factors to substance abuse and addiction. A person’s
despair and anxiety are exacerbated by the fact that many people use alcohol and drugs as a
coping technique.

-Leigh: How does substance abuse affect psychosocial development?

-Audrey: Substance abuse can have an impact on psychosocial development by having a
substance addiction that, when overdosed, can result in sadness, mood disruption, sleeplessness,
anorexia, sexual dysfunction, paranoia, and hallucinations. A person may utilize these to pursue
pleasure in the early stages of addiction.

-Leigh: How does substance abuse affect your social life?

-Earl: Drug users may be aggressive and violent towards others, including their friends and
family. Drug overdose victims may develop paranoid thoughts regarding their connections to
those around them. Abuse of drugs or alcohol can destroy friendships, partnerships, and other
ties.

-Leigh: What are the three personal factors that contribute to substance abuse
-Josiah: An individual’s likelihood of being addicted to drugs or alcohol is influenced by a
number of factors. Among the risk factors for addiction, susceptibility includes genes, family
history, mental health, and the environment.

-Leigh: Just that. I appreciate your excellent responses.

-Leader: That is all, we hope that with our little panel discussion, we have taught you something
that will give you awareness about substance abuse.

-(ALL): Before we go any further, however, we would like to reiterate the importance of mental
health and the need for everyone to take responsibility for its promotion. Keep in mind that it's
all right to not feel okay, but it's as important to ask for help when we need it!
We are GROUP 3 once again, and we appreciate that you took the time to listen.
