CULTURES AND COMMUNICATIONS

In BUSINESS , there are many knowledge and beliefs learned by culture, thus those national aspects
should be taken into account when doing international collaborations or trades.

The impact of intercultural communications grows consistently due to the increasing amount of
domestic workforce (more and more diverse, ethnically and culturally) and globalization.

The examples of different cultural approaches are the speed of contract negotiations, level of
formality between business partners, and subtle versus direct conversation about money, even the way
of communication.

Countries are divided into ‘high-context’ or ‘low-context’ way of communication between cultures,
where high-context cultures are most likely to leave its messages not specified and oriented on non-
verbal cues, however low-context cultures write over-specific and precise. It all depends on the
history of country and its language. Silent and non-verbal signs are also interpreted differently
depending on the country.

Furthermore, in sequential cultures, businesspeople give full attention to one task until completed and
then begin another.

In synchronic cultures (including South America, southern Europe and Asia) the flow of time is
viewed as circular - with the past, present, and future all inter-related.

Also, studies have shown that there is a significant difference in emotions regarding to countries.
Some of them show lots of emotions which are also connected to the culture, some of them stay calm
most of time.

TECHNOLOGIES AND COMMUNICATION

Technologies have significantly facilitated and expanded ways of communications between business
around the world. Although it can lack of cultural sensitivity in face of offense from either an
international partner or costumers due to misunderstandings.

Recent innovation in face of cell phones or ipads, undoubtedly have both benefits and limitations.

 Benefits: easy way of communicating inside the business, online access. High security
operations. Easy way of communication with international partners.
 Limitations: Chance of cheating at work, extra training of employees, the price of those
technologies can be essential.
