Night Time

When underway and making way through the water shall exhibit side lights , stern light and two all-
around red lights hoisted vertically one over the other where they can best be seen.

Shall exhibit two all-around black balls hoisted vertically one over the other where they can best be
seen when underway and making way through the water.

Fog signal

Shall sound one prolonged blast followed by two short blasts at an interval of not more than 2
minutes.

practicable distance and this situation is carefully monitored until she is finally past and clear.

4. Tug and tow

She shall exhibit three white lights in a vertical line where they can best be seen when length of the
tow exceeds 200 meters. In addition to that, side lights, a stern light and a towing light (yellow in
colour) is placed above the stern light.
She shall exhibit two white lights in a vertical line where they can best be seen when length of the tow
less than 200 meters. In addition to that side lights a stern light and a towing light yellow in colour is
placed above the stern light.

A vessel is to be towed shall exhibit side lights stern light and the towing light (yellow colour) is placed
on top of the stern light.

Day time

A diamond shape is exhibited only when the length of the tow line exceeds 200 meters by the towing
vessel as well as the vessel to be towed.

Fog signal

A vessel engaged in towing when making way through the water shall sound one prolonged blast
followed by 2 short blasts at an interval of not more than 2 minutes and immediately after this sound
signal a vessel to be towed shall sound one prolonged blast followed by 3 short blasts.

5.Sailing vessel

Night time

6. Fishing vessel other than trawling

Night signal

Avessel engaged in fishing when making way through the water shall exhibit red upon white light
forward where they can best be seen, side lights and stern light.

Day time

A vessel engaged in fishing when making way through the water shall exhibit two black cones apex
together (point to point) where they can best be seen.

Fog signal

Fishing vessel when making way through the water shall sound one prolong followed by two short
blasts at an interval of not more than 2 minutes.

Action:

Alter my course to starboard (broad alteration) by giving one short blast and pass at a safe and
practicable distance and this situation is carefully monitored until she is finally past and clear

7 Vessel engaged in trawling

Vessel engaged in trawling when making way through the water and the length 50 meters or more
shall exhibit green upon white light where they can best be seen. In addition to that, mast head light
aft, side lights and stern light.

Day time

Vessel engaged in trawling when making way through the water shall exhibit two black cones apex
together (point to point) where they can best be seen.

Fog signal

Vessel engaged in trawling when making way through the water shall sound one prolong followed by
two short blasts at an interval of not more than 2 mi

8. Vessel engaged on pilotage duty when making way through the water

Shall exhibit white upon red lights where they can best be seen, in addition to that side and stern

Fog signal.

One prolonged blast followed by 4 short blasts when making way through the water.

Power driven vessel

Night time

9.PDV when underway/making way (50 meters or more in length) shall exhibit two masthead lights
where they can best be seen (one at the foremast head and the other at the aft masthead) the
forward masthead light is lower than the aft mast head light, side lights (starboard side green light
and portside red light) and stern light (white) aft.

Day time

PDV vessel when underway/making way through the water shall exhibit only the corresponding
aspect of the ship.

Fog signal

PDV when making way through the water shall sound one prolonged blast at an interval of not more
than 2 minutes.

Power driven vessel during the passage when stopped for some reason, shall sound two prolong
blasts at an interval of not more than 2 minutes.
