AUSTRIA

• Reason for choosing this country

The reason I chose this country is because my friends were with their families 6 years
ago in Austria at a conference and I was not there because my mother did not work
in that association. After 2 years since they were in Austria, my mother started
working with them. And they do the conference in Austria every 3 years and when
we go the pandemic came and it was canceled. I wanted to go so much and I couldn't
and Austria is an unfulfilled dream. My best friend told me how it was and what
activities took place and I immediately fell in love with that place. There were people
from all over the world, including my friends from America and Italy. I was so sad
because I couldn't go. And Austria has become my second favorite country and by
doing this project I can discover it better. I love their music, their customs and their
country especially their mountains

• Things to see and do

Climb the mountain road that winds around Großglockner

The mountain road at the foothills of Austria’s highest mountain will take you from Bruck to
Heiligenblut. It was built between 1930 and 1935 on an ancient Roman trail. It’s one of the
most magnificent mountain roads in Europe. If you travel it, it will take you through majestic
parts of the High Tauern, past a glacier that’s retreating fast. You definitely have to visit the
Franz Joseph lodge at an altitude of 2,422 metres, which offers an incredible view of the
surroundings. You can learn more about the region’s history at the visitor centre. The
Grossglockner towers above the entire road with its prominent shape. The peak reaches 3,798
metres high.

Get lost in the home of ice giants at Eisriesenwelt

The spectacular World of the Ice Giants, which is located at the western edge of the Tennen
Mountains, is the largest ice cave system in the world. The caves were carved out by an
underground river in the Tertiary. They measure more than 42 kilometres in length. The
massive Posselt Hall lies underground with impressive ice formations, such as the Hymir
Castle, and glazed frost. Stone steps lead to ice gates, a spectacular 1,775-metre-tall ice wall
and the Ice Palace. Guided tours take two hours, so you better take enough time to explore
the caves.

Austrian folk dances

Austrian folk dance is usually associated with polka. However, there are other traditional
dances in this small country in Europe. In general terms they are known by the German name
of folkloretänze. Most of them are dances that make up figures where the dancers hold hands
and dance to the beat of a certain tune and it is in this type that the polka, the zwiefacher or
the waltz. If you go to Vienna, take a good look, because in this city these types of events are
usually organized in sensational places, such as the Belvedere Palace or the Ländler.

Vienna State Opera

In Vienna’s inner city is the Ringstraße, or Ring Road, along which countless landmarks are
found. Just one of these landmarks is the Vienna State Opera House. The structure itself was
constructed in the 19th century in a Neo-Renaissance style. Marble staircases and painted
ceilings make this is a truly grand destination. After bombing in World War II, the structure
was rebuilt to be true to the original style. While a tour of the building is wonderful, what is
even better is attending a musical performance or even a ball, many of which are held
annually at the Vienna State Opera.
