INTRODUCTION TO THE NGO:
In order to create a powerful voluntary sector that would ensure a just, social, and economic order, a group of
visionaries founded the SOSVA, or Society for Services to Voluntary Agencies, in 1984. SOSVA strives to strengthen
a variety of NGOs operating on the ground as a support service organisation. In all spheres of social and economic
growth, it encourages the formation of new NGOs and aids in the expansion of existing ones. It helps NGOs find
projects, prepare projects, secure funding from national and international organisations, including the government,
and then supports them through project implementation and performance evaluation. It promotes changing the
regulatory environment for NGOs and seeks to establish institutions that offer these and other crucial services to the
voluntary sector.
SOSVA was set up 34 years ago with a mission to support the community in the areas of Healthcare, Volunteering &
Education. They have been driving initiatives with consistent results. With an increase and growth in all three verticals
over the years, SOSVA has been able to establish a significant footprint in the social service sector. With the prime
objective of promoting volunteering, their main aim is to get as many people from all strata of the society to contribute
to the community in one way or the other. The organization is passionately striving very hard to achieve the mission
and has been able to achieve it over the long years of operations and service they have provided over the years. Their
main project in 2019 revolved around preventive healthcare as SOSVA has always been passionate about healthcare
and promoting good practices. SOSVA conducted yoga sessions for 700 orphans living across 20 orphanages where
the orphanages worked closely with SOSVA for this project. With regards to education, SOSVA was successful in
supporting the high school education of 300 students from the underprivileged section of the society. Institutes like
YMCA, NAB, Nivara & Holy Spirit were the organizations that helped support the cause with SOSVA.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:
 To support a social cause and add value to the society by creating solution
 To develop a sense of empathy towards needy people
 To support charitable ventures for making better living for unprivileged children

REPORTS OF THE EVERYDAY ACTIVITY

I have volunteered and contributed my time towards a great cause for raising funds for the NGO like SOSVA where
our team was allotted a petrol pump to raise funds.
DAY 1 (07.10.22) - We were given the Andheri Petrol Pump in Mumbai's Andheri (West), next to Tulip Star Hotel. So in order
to set up our counter there at the gas station, we needed tables, chairs, as well as additional supplies like a tablecloth, a banner,
and organising brochures. After reviewing the project with the pump manager on day 1, we set up the workstation, tables, and
chairs. As soon as setup was done, we started our collection drive by approaching different people who came top the petrol pump
for fuelling their vehicles. There were two-wheelers, four-wheelers, tempo drivers and truck drivers though their work was
different but still they can be approached for the cause for which we were fundraising. Once we approached the individuals, we
explained who we were, where we were from and for what cause are we actually working. After explaining them the details of
the organization that is SOSVA and about our project, we requested them to make any amount of donation that they would like
to give to us for the cause. We were able to collect different amounts from Rs 10/- to Rs 2500/- from the various people we
approached. So, on Day 1 we were able to collect Rs 5500/-. We worked from 9am to 6pm on the first day and it was a great
overall experience as we got to talk to a lot of different people and had great conversations with those people on various things.
DAY 2 (08.10.22) – So also on the second day. Early in the morning we arrived at the venue and set up our workstation for the
day. At first the beginning was little slow but by the afternoon, we had met a good number of individuals and had gathered a
respectable amount of money. Day 2 collections was more than Rs 2500 and total of 2 days was more than Rs 7000. Thus, this
activity made us realise that there is good in people and they just need that extra push to do some good for the society. The main
aim to do this activity was to make people realise how their single penny contribution can help and under-privileged students
for their better future.

LEARNINGS FROM THE ACTIVITY

 This fundraising activity also developed new skills like, public speaking, influencing,
converting the people into required prospects.
 It also developed enthusiasm and made us emotionally feel the importance of fundraising, for
the underprivileged children.
 Realisation of sensitivity that is needed from the volunteers and donors.
 Importance of corporate social responsibility, that needs to be performed by every
organisation, so that they can contribute a bit from their profits for the betterment of the
required and underprivileged world.
 Fundraising event taught us how you can strategically think and find out different ways to
raise funds (Acting, Role Playing, preparing your elevator speech to introducing your cause,
etc)
 Team building happened internally, we already knew each other but this activity made us
realised the importance of team work, and working together to achieve one goal.
