Ophelia threw a sandwich at Hamlet for saying they shouldn't study Shakespeare since he's dead, not realizing he was quoting Shakespeare by saying her argument was "Greek" to him. Juliet and Ophelia then have a back-and-forth where they quote Shakespearean phrases to each other, realizing how much his works are still used today. They conclude that the game is up for Hamlet since he was unknowingly quoting Shakespeare by complaining about her throwing a sandwich at him.

    Shakespeare’s Not Dead

    OPHELIA and JULIET are sitting in a classroom, doodling in their books, looking
    bored etc.

    OPHELIA: Hey, do you know what time it is?

    JULIET: Nope. Never learnt to read a watch.

    OPHELIA: Oh.

    JULIET: Just kidding, it’s 3:30.

    OPHELIA: (Laughing) Oh, thanks!

    There is silence for a moment until…

    JULIET: So, how did you end up being in detention?

    OPHELIA: I told Hamlet he was an idiot and then threw my sandwich at him.

    JULIET: Why?

    OPHELIA: Because he said something stupid.

    JULIET: What did he say?

    OPHELIA: That we shouldn’t be learning about Shakespeare, because Shakespeare’s


    dead.

    JULIET: You’re right, that is stupid.

    OPHELIA: Thank you!

    JULIET: People use Shakespeare all the time! He invented so many of the words and
    phrases we use today!

    OPHELIA: Yes, yes! Exactly! I tried to explain this to Hamlet but he kept just saying
    my argument was Greek to him.

    JULIET: Doesn’t he know he’s literally quoting Shakespeare when he says that?

    OPHELIA: No! That’s why I threw my sandwich at him!

    JULIET: Bet he got tongue-tied after that!

    OPHELIA: You’re quoting Shakespeare too!

    JULIET: Well, I have made the virtue of necessity.

    OPHELIA: Have you insisted on fair play?

    JULIET: Slept not one wink?

    OPHELIA: Laughed yourself into stitches?

    JULIET: Had too much of a good thing?

    OPHELIA: Lived in a fool's paradise?

    JULIET: Why, be that as it may, you are quoting Shakespeare!

    OPHELIA: Well, I think Hamlet’s a laughing stock.

    JULIET: The devil incarnate!

    OPHELIA: A stony hearted villain!

    JULIET: A blinking idiot!

    OPHELIA: A complete and utter eyesore!

    JULIET: Who I want to send packing!

    OPHELIA: And but no buts, you are quoting Shakespeare!

    JULIET: So even though he sees no rhyme or reason to me throwing a sandwich at


    him-

    OPHELIA: -the game is up!

    TOGETHER: Because he was quoting Shakespeare!

    The girls start laughing together.

    JULIET: Sorry, I didn’t get your name. I’m Juliet!

    OPHELIA: I’m Ophelia!

    JULIET: Nice to meet you Ophelia!

    OPHELIA: You too! It’s really great to know that there are other people out there who
    appreciate Shakespeare as much as I do!

    JULIET: I feel exactly the same! It’s so good to know that someone else realises that
    Shakespeare’s not dead!
