This guideline contains step‐by‐step instructions on how to use the Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN")
to securely erasing data in the hard disk of computers. DBAN is a useful tool for deleting the
contents in a hard disk automatically and completely. For more information, you can visit
http://www.dban.org.

A. Preparation : Burnt a DBAN boot disk
Step A.1:
Download DBAN 2.2.6 Beta from http://www.dban.org. Then burn this file to a blank CD/DVD.
Do not unzip this file.
Note: For partition wiping, you can download DBAN 1.0.7 version.

B. Data Erasing by DBAN
Step B.1:
Insert the DBAN boot disk into the CD‐ROM drive.
Step B.2:
Restart your computer and enter to the BIOS interface by pressing ESC (different machine may have
different enter setting) before entering to Windows.
Step B.3:
Select “Boot” from the menu bar by using the arrow keys .

Step B.4:
Select CD‐ROM drive as the first booting drive, then press “Enter” to accept the setting. And then
select “Yes” to confirm the setting.
Step B.5:
Your computer will automatically restart, and you will see the following screen.
Type “autonuke” at the command prompt to start DBAN in automatic mode.

Step B.6:
Select the disk you want to erase data. The software default will use DoD Short method (3 passes)
for data erasing.
Important: All the data can never be recovered after executing autonuke.
Step B.7:
All selected disks have been wiped when you see the following screen.
