The Linguistic theory that was originally developed in 1929

by a linguist named Edward Sapir. It was expanded upon by


Sapir's student, Benjamin Whorf, leading to the hypothesis's
name. The simplest Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, (Sapir-Whorf
which was mentioned already in the previous discussion)
definition is a theory of language that suggests that the
language a person speaks determines or influences how
they think. According to Sapir-Whorf, a person's native
language has a major impact on how they see the world.

Preposition – Indicating the position, time, and movement of something or


someone, like Into, through, toward..

Example:

English Vs. Spanish

English: The bottle floated into the cave

Spanish: La botella entro la cueva flotando

Tagalog VS. Bisaya

Tagalog: Umalis na si Jessa


Bisaya: Nilakaw na si Jessa

Lexicalization – Terminology used in a language and dialects

Example:

English: Snow – wet snow, snawball, snowflakes, snowdrop

Bisaya – Trak dako, trak gamay, lamesang lingn, lamesang pilo-pilo

Classifier - identifying someone or something according to their


characteristics.

Example:

Flat, Big, small, hard,

Basic Color term – How someone see color terms according to their
culture and language.

Example:

Skin color: Brown, Black, light brown, dark brown, white, = Puti and Lagom for
Pinoy

Red = Hot color for other culture and language


White = clean color for other culture and language

Directional system – How individuals show directions according to their


language and culture..
Example:

Other language: North, south, east, West

Other language: Turn right, turn left, climb the mountain, walk left then right,

bisaya: Lahos, nya saka buntod, unahan gamay sa may punuan sa kaymito.
