This semester, for my personal project, I wanted to improve my english pronunciation. To complete
my goal, I choose to focus on a cycle of english melodies for piano and choir entitled From the
Bavarian Highland, which was composed by the british composer Edward Elgar. It was interesting to
choose these pieces because I can link the word that I did to my musical practice. Indeed, I play the
piano, so maybe on day I will accompany a choir who sing these melodies. Furthermore, I am a
beginner in lyric sing, so I will maybe sing one of them too, so it is doubling interesting.
I worked with a website name toPhonetics to can analyse the IPA translation of these songs. I thons
that this exercice change my vision of english pronunciation: I knew that my pronunciation wasn’t
appropriate but I realise that I didn't pronounce well some words as easy that son or mother. That the
proof that I have a lot of bad customs to abandonne, that can’t be realised in only 3 months, It still a
work in progress. I recorded myself to have a return on what I do.
It was sometimes difficult to me to link differents vowels to words, because it seems weird to me.
I enjoy to do this project. For my next personal project I will maybe work on the comprehension of a
german Opera that I want to see since a long time (the tetralogie of Wagner). I find on YouTube a
version subtitled in english.
