Secretary's Circular Number 9 of 2022
RE: VACATION SCHOOL FOR GRADE 7, °O" AND “A’ LEVEL
CANDIDATES
SSS SSS
Reference is made to the Secretary's Circular Number § of 2021 on the Conduct
of In-Person Holiday Lessons for Term | of 2021, as well as Secretary's
Circular Number 12 of 2014 on Lessons during School Holidays,
Please note that vacation schools for candidates during this August school
holiday should be held in compliance to the Standard Operating Procedures for
COVID -I9. This strategy should provide an opportunity for pupils to catch-up
with the syllabus demands in preparation of their summative examinations at the
end of the year in view of the lost learning time experienced during the iong
‘school closures. Be reminded that the vacation school should be held for a
maximum of 10 working days being mindful of the fact that children have to rest
A Zero budget principle should be implemented for the Holiday session
(budgeting for the activities only without any profit or loss at the end of the
Session). All forms of currency are acceptable as a form of payment at the
Prevailing interbank rate. Boarding fees to be collected on a prorata basis.
Alternative methods such as holding syllabus enrichment camps can
be organised by Provinces in liaison with Learning Area Platforms
where a cluster of schools can share their best practices utilising
skills from different teachers with specialisation in different LearningAreas and especially in STEM, Technology and Design Learning Areas. This strategy is
Encouraged especially for remote rural schools which do not have a full complement of
qualified teachers who will then take advantage of the cluster enrichment ‘camps held under
‘he guidance of the Provincial Education Directors, District Schools Inspectors and their
NAPH and NASH structures.
Schools are therefore advised to apply for authority to run vacation schools from their
Provincial Education Directors, which process should be closely monitored by the Provinces.
