Answer the following guide questions:

• Was there progress in the fight to stop human trafficking after ASEAN signed the Declaration Against
Trafficking in Persons, Particularly Women and Children?

- Despite the fact that ASEAN signed the Declaration Against Trafficking in Persons, Particularly
Women and Children, no major progress has been made in implementing the Declaration. This is
especially true given that East Asian countries are a key source of long-distance, transregional
trafficking. According to the most current UNODC Global Report on Human Trafficking, East Asia
and the Pacific account for roughly 40% of all detected juvenile victims. Furthermore, victims
from this region are the most geographically distributed, with victims documented in over 60
nations.

• What is the percentage of child victims of human trafficking in the ASEAN Region?

- (Year 2014) According to the 2014 UNODC Global Report on Human Trafficking, East Asia and
the Pacific account for roughly 40% of all detected juvenile victims. Furthermore, victims from
this region are the most geographically distributed, with victims documented in over 60 nations.

• How does the Internet contribute to the increased number of human trafficking cases? Do you think
that the Internet can be used as a tool to victimize people? Explain your answer.

- Internet is full of bad intentions, since internet reach a lot of people it is inevitable that a lot of
bad guys will take internet as opportunity. Like in the given example in the article on how
human trafficking increase because of social media, Children under the age of 18 who use social
media platforms are frequently targeted by traffickers. In the first case, a young person may
receive a friend request from an unknown individual yet still accept it. They increase their
interactions, arrange to meet, and then meet again after further social media activity. The
youngster is then trafficked, and it is believed that one-quarter of all children reported missing
in Indonesia met their captors on social media platforms such as Facebook.
