Experience

Visiting the Book Fair after 2 years was extremely nostalgic, it brought back so many memories.
Due to the covid-19 pandemic strict safety precautions were enforced and a lockdown was
placed. Even though I don’t read books very often, whenever I find a book that piques my
interest or is to my liking, I indulge myself in the book to the extent that I lose sense of time. I
become so obsessed that I forget the existence of everything and all that remains is the book
and me. As soon as I walked into the fair I rediscovered my love for reading books. The people,
the stalls, the lights, the ambience affected me like in such a way, I went off-track. Even though I
visited the book fair for academic purposes, it felt as if I was a little girl who was taken to a toy
store. I was so captivated and mesmerised with the different types of books that were there,
learning about writers inspiration for the book, the message or purpose he hoped to convey
through the book. I became so used to digitalised media I forgot how it felt reading a book. As
my love for books rekindled I also had gained new experiences. As I always used to visit the
book fair with my dad, visiting the book fair with my friends was a new experience I gained. We
tried different snacks that were being sold in stalls such as small fuchkas , cotton candy ,
jhalmuri, different type of pickles. As the main objective for the book fair was the assignment but
interacting with different types of people, learning about their perspectives, their experiences
about the fair was one of my favorite things I did in the fair. Although me and my friends had
planned to finish our coursework as soon as possible and head back to our respective homes
by 6 in the evening , we were so absorbed with the fair that we lost track of time and by the time
we realised it was already 8 in the evening . Even though I didn’t read books as much as I used
to but I had a list of books I wanted to read as I was looking for them I was introduced to more
books, some were suggested by my friend while others were suggested to me by the authors
and book enthusiasts. Even though I had no intentions of visiting the book fair this year and the
only purpose for the visit was an assignment, but it ended up being one of the most memorable
days for me and I will always cherish them.
