The climate varies from northern Africa which is Mediterranean, to tropical in the central region around the equator, and large plains and desert in the south such as the Kalahari. Africa is known for its abundance of wild animals like giraffes, elephants, hippos, lions, and crocodiles found in many national parks. While Africa has natural resources like oil and minerals, it remains poor with 380 million Africans living in poverty, possibly due to political instability and lack of infrastructure.
