Exercise 3.1 Identifying Installation Workflow

3.1.1 Description
The student should become familiar with the workflow in preparing, planning,
installing and configuring a simple 800xA System.
The actual planning, installation and configuration will be done in future lab exercises.

NOTE! This exercise can be worked out in student groups.

(recommended are 2 students per group)

3.1.3 Exercise Steps

This exercise can be completed by referencing the System 800xA Automated
Installation, System 800xA Installation and the System 800xA PostInstallion manuals.
In subsequent exercises, different installation tools will be used to configure windows
and install the System 800xA software on various nodes (Domain Controller, Aspect
Server, Connectivity Server, and Client). This exercise will help identify the tools and
the necessary preparation for their use.

3.1.3.1 Basic Workflow

When creating an 800xA System, it is important to have a basic workflow.

 In the System 800xA Automated Installation manual, identify and list the major steps
for the following workflow categories.

3.1.3.2 Preparation

In this course, all of the nodes already have Windows Server2008 with SP2 installed.
Much of the preparation has been done, It has also been determined that the Aspect
Server will be the 800xA license server and a license file has been generated
accordingly.
The network binding order must be verified prior to beginning the automated phase of
the installation. A correct binding order is essential for the networks to be configured
in the proper order.
The local administrator user on each node must have a password for the unattended
restarts to work properly during the automated installation.

 From the “Start” menu, open “Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center”. Select
“Manage network connections” from the left menu.

 From the tool bar select “Advanced > Advanced Settings…” then make sure that the
binding order has been set properly as seen below.

 Select “Start > Administrative Tools > Server Manager”. In the left pane of the Server
Manager window, expand “Configuration > Local Users and Groups”, then select
“Users”. In the right pane, right mouse click on “Administrator”, select “Set
Password…”, then enter a password.

 Repeat the above steps (Binding Order and Set Password) for each of the nodes.

3.1.3.3 System Planner Tool

 Use Section 4 of the System 800xA Automated Installation manual to become familiar
with the “System Planner Tool”.

3.1.3.4 System Installation (Automated)

During the automated system installation phase, there will be five major steps that will
be executed. Understanding what is occurring during each of these steps will better
prepare you for any problems that may occur.
Both the Automated Installation and the Installation Wizard tools will be used during
this phase.

 In the following list, identify the section and page(s) from the System 800xA
Automated Installation manual describing each procedure.
