Introduction

Features of translation of the title of English films into Russian

Currently, cinema is one of the most popular areas of our life. The popularity of
the film is largely determined by its title, because it is much easier to attract the
viewer's attention with a spectacular title than with a description of the content of
this film.
Research by psychologists shows that about 80% of readers of newspapers and
magazines pay attention only to the headlines. This is also the case with cinema.
The viewer determines his attitude to the film by the title, decides whether it is
worth watching. The title sets the audience up for a certain emotional tone. The
title of the film contains in a concise form the main idea of the work, is the key to
understanding it.
Translating movie titles is not an easy task for a translator, since the title should
not only be bright, concise and memorable, i.e. perform an advertising function,
but also provide information about the genre of the film, its content, and the target
audience.
An important role in this work, as in any other, is played by the theoretical part,
because everything starts with theory and only then we are given the opportunity to
use the knowledge gained in life. To some, this part may not seem essential: "Well,
who does not know the meaning of the word "film" or what it includes, how the
translation is carried out, etc." But having asked such a question to a person, he
finds himself in a dead end: he has an idea, for example, about the meaning of the
word, it is directly it turns on his tongue, but he can't formulate it correctly and
beautifully.

Problem statement
Problem - few people have seriously dealt with or are engaged in the issues of
translating the titles of cinematographic works and therefore this topic has been
little studied. Translation of movie titles is not an easy task for a translator, since
the title should not only be bright, concise and memorable, i.e. perform an
advertising function, but also provide information about the genre of the film, its
content, and the target audience.

Purpose of the Study

 To analyze the titles of films to establish the relationship between title and
content and to determine the equivalence of the translation of film titles
from English into Russian.

Research Questions

