    BY THE W ATER

    I lived in a house by the water. I sat by the water each day. I took my bag there with me. In
    it, I packed a book and a blanket. I also carried a chair and a basket of food. I walked down
    my back steps and sat in the same spot along the grass. When I went out to the water in the
    morning I was alone. I heard the water. I saw the boats. I felt calm. It was the part of the
    day I liked best. Later, some children came to play by the water. It was afternoon. I heard
    them laughing. I saw them play ball. “Nestor,Nestor!” The children yelled when they saw
    me on the beach. I waved and smile. ” “Played ball with us,Nestor!” The children shouted.
    “No, thanks” I said “I was too old to play ball. I walked with a cane and my hands were no
    longer good at catching. ” I tried to read my book.,but it was hard with all the noise. I
    watched mothers and fathers fish along the shore. I was happy. I heard the water. I saw the
    boats. I ate my lunch. Later, the sky got dark. I gathered all my things and went back to the
    house. I got in bed. I heard the water through my open window
