Instructions for Students :
Welcome students!

We are so excited that you will be joining us for the Summer Reading
Challenge. Each week you will be tasked with reading 1 book to be
completed by the Friday of each week. Every Friday for 5 weeks, you will be
able to tune in to a virtual session featuring the author of the book you have
read that week + a special guest.

After the completion of each book, you will be expected to submit a book
report (of approximately 200 words) to First Book Canada to share your
thoughts and what you may have learned from each book.
How you demonstrate this is up to you. We have supplied suggested prompts
for the book reviews below to get you started, but we encourage
creativity in how you choose to communicate your comprehension and
thoughts about the books.

Instructions for how to tune in the virtual sessions will be provided by email,
sooner to the start of the Challenge.

Finally, we encourage you to document your experience with the Challenge.

Send us any photos if you'd like to be featured on our social media! We
encourage creativity; if you'd like to draw and share pictures of scenes or
characters from the books you are reading, please share them with us!

Book Report Guidelines:
Book reviews are to be turned in every Friday to First Book Canada. The
following is a guideline for book reviews. Students can use this as a
starting point for their book reviews, or they can deviate entirely if there is
one element of the book they are most interested in writing about.
Suggested length of each report is approximately 200 words.

If students don't enjoy a book of any particular week, we would like to

hear why they didn't enjoy it. For example, they can write about what
decisions the main character made that they didn't like, why they didn't
like one of the characters, or what aspect of the story they might change,
etc.

Suggested Prompts:
What was your favourite and/or least favourite part and why?
Which characters would you like to meet in real life and why?
How did the story make you feel?
Would you recommend this book to a friend, why or why not?
What new things did you or the main character learn?
What surprised you?
What was one of your favourite words from this book, and what does it
mean?
Compare two characters from the book. How are they alike and how
are they different?
What is the main message of the book?
Draw us a picture of what you think a scene in the book looks like.
Write about why you drew this scene, who is in it, why you liked/
disliked this scene in the book, etc.

Students who hand in book reports for each title will have successfully
completed the challenge and will receive a certificate for their hard
work!

Book Reports are to be submitted at the following LINK.
