What We Will Learn:

This week we will continue to learn about communities through Language Arts.
Our unit’s Essential Question is “Why do people get involved in their
community?” We will be reviewing short “a”, short “i”, and short “o”. We will
also review nouns and verb tenses.

We will continue work with addition word problems, focusing on strategies for
finding missing parts. We will also expand on our understanding of the equal
sign, and construct equivalent number sentences. In Writer’s Workshop, we will
continue to advance our understanding of story elements, working on writing
“Small Moment” stories that are about one event, rather than about an entire
day.

Homework: Volunteers Needed –

This week we will begin Home
Reading. Students will come home with a
book that is at their reading level. Their
homework is to read the book, ideally more
than once. The book comes back the
following day, and is read with one of our
Home Reading Volunteers. Feel free to
email me with any questions!

School Sponsored Trip
We will be having a Mobile
Touch tank come to our school
site for our first school-
sponsored trip! On Friday,
October 5th from 10:25 – 10:55
your students will get to learn
about and touch marine
animals. Any volunteers would
be greatly appreciated! Please
contact me if you’re available.

