In my opinion, the joining of Indonesia as a member of AFTA has clearly had a positive impact.

The
positive impact I mean is

1. Become an opportunity for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs to export their production
goods, so as to be able to open up their opportunities to get foreign markets

2. Provide opportunities for Indonesia in export activities

3. Making Indonesia more able to produce competitive commodities in the ASEAN market. One of
Indonesia's commodities that can compete with other countries is agricultural commodities, such as
palm oil, rubber, cocoa, and coffee which are materials that are in great demand by ASEAN countries
and abroad.

4. Increase competitiveness to encourage economic development. It is also expected to be able to

raise the awareness of entrepreneurs or business actors to be more competitive, by producing quality
goods.

In addition to the positive impact, we must also look at the negative impact of joining Indonesia as a
member of AFTA. That is

1. Competition for commodity materials among ASEAN member countries. This competition can cause
small domestic industries to go out of business, because they have not been able to compete with
materials from abroad

2. The existence of unstable conditions in the country, making countries that want to export their
products, will be reluctant to continue

3. The difference in the economic level of each member of the ASEAN countries, creates an obstacle
in their export and import activities

4. Many countries protect their domestic goods. This makes it difficult for goods from abroad to
determine the market price.
