CHARACTERISTICS OF A
RESEARCH PROBLEM
Generally speaking the characteristics of a good research problem has the
acronym of SMART.
❖Specific. The problem is specifically stated.
❖Measurable. It is easy to measure by using research instruments,
interviews, apparatus, equipment.
❖Achievable. The data are achievable using correct statistical tools to
arrive at precise results.
❖Realistic. Real results are attained because they are gathered
scientifically and not manipulated or maneuvered.
❖Time-bound. Time frame is required in every activity because the shorter
completion of the activity, the better.

1.It should not be more than 20 words.


2.It should include variables (independent and dependent
variables) and methodical analysis.
3.It should give insight virtually on what the research is all
about.
4.It should serve as a reference for the whole research report
which others can use.

GUIDELINES IN WRITING A RESEARCH TITLE

1.The following words should not be part of the title since all
researches are studies, an analysis of variable, and an
investigation, like: “A study of…”, “An Analysis of …”, And “An
Investigation of…”.
2.It is not important to include the date and location of the
investigation as these can be place in the scope and
Delimitation of the Study.
