Ellen DeGeneres (How they became popular/known) A comedian, television personality,

actress, writer, and producer from the United States is Ellen DeGeneres. From 1994 to 1998,
she starred in the sitcom Ellen, for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award for "The Puppy
Episode". From 2003 to 2022, she served as host of the syndicated television talk show The
Ellen DeGeneres Show, for which she won 33 Daytime Emmy Awards. (When and how they
came out) Ellen openly came out in 1977 with a Time cover simply stating “ I’m Gay”. This was
revolutionary because, during this time, lesbian celebrities were not speaking out due to the
hostility surrounding being a lesbian. (Optional) It was radical for Ellen to risk her career and
reputation during this time to live her truth. She and Portia have been named the most popular
couple many times and have helped to normalize lesbian relationships all around us. Kehlani

Kehlani Ashley Parrish is an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Kehlani is originally from
Oakland, California, and achieved initial fame as a member of the teen group Poplyfe in 2011.
In 2014, Kehlani released their first commercial mixtape, Cloud 19. The mixtape was listed as
one of the Complex's "50 Best Albums of 2014." Their second commercial mixtape, You Should
Be Here (2015), debuted at number 5 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. In 2016, they were nominated
for the Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album for You Should Be Here. (When
and how they came out) Kehlani, who has long identified as queer and bisexual, proclaimed
herself a lesbian via a TikTok post on April 22, 2021. In her video, the singer and songwriter
said, “I am gay, gay, gay. … I finally know I’m a lesbian.” (Optional) The news didn’t come as
much of a surprise to fans. As a member and advocate of the LGBTQ community, Kehlani who
goes by she/they pronouns, had comments about their sexuality previously, writing in a now-
deleted tweet: “I felt gay always insisted there was still a line drawn as to which ‘label’ of human
I was attracted when I really just be walking around thinking ERRYBODY FINE.” However, she
hadn’t come out to her family at that point.
