For example, how does an input device scan a barcode and convert it to digital. However, for the new syllabus first examined in 2023, candidates only need to understand what each device does, why it does it, and when it might need to be used, but not how it physically functions. Please let me know if| can be of any further assistance. Inqilab Patel 31 Dec 2022, 05:37 GMT. Dear CAIE | am Ingilab Patel, Computer Science Subject Lead in The City School Network, | have some concerns regarding syllabus section 3,2 1, That 0478, 0984 and 2210 syllabus document for the year 2023, 2024 and 2025 says: Understand what is meant by an input device and why itis required Understand what is meant by an output device and why it is required 2. And while the previous syllabus documents for the above mentioned qualifications says: 1.3.3 Input devices + describe the principles of operation (how each device works) of these input devices. 1.3.4 Output devices + describe the principles of operation of these. 3. and that from these statements an understanding is built that in new syllabus teaching and understanding of principles of operation of input and output devices are not required. Butin the scheme of work of section 3.2 Input and output devices, "How it works” is a suggested teaching activity, Even the past paper questions given at the end of each section in ‘Scheme of Works are related with the principles of operations like’ June 2019 Paper 11, question 3 Nov 2019 Paper 11, question 1 and question 4 Nov 2019 Paper 12, question 6 Nov 2019 Paper 13, question 1(d) June 2020 Paper 11, question 8 June 2020 Paper 12, question 6 5. This is ambiguity in syllabus document and scheme of work, is causing confusion among teacher and learners 6. _Itis to be noted that the depth and length of the new syllabus is already increased. It will also be over burdening learners, to ask learn principle of operations of a long list of input and output devices, just for the safe side 7. An enquiry 2020237 in this matter, has already been posted, You are requested to look into the matter and clarify the confusion.
