Greenhouse Skills Assessment Sheet
Greenhouse Skills Assessment Sheet
Watering For your assigned zone of the greenhouse (1 or 2), you will
be responsible for all watering for the class period. You are
to determine what plants need to be watered and which do
not.
/20
For full points, you will be evaluated on whether all plants
have appropriate water content in their pots. For any plants
that need water that were missed, you will lose a point.
Soil Preparation For the class period you are assigned soil duty, you will be
evaluated on your ability to mix soil to the correct moisture
content. Additionally, it is your responsibility that all pots and
trays are filled to the appropriate level (not too full, not too
low). /20
For full points, the water content of your soil will be first
assessessed, and the soil level of your pots and trays will be
assessed as you fill them.
Flower Pot Design You will have the opportunity to design your own hanging pot
or large flower pot. To do so, you will pick a thriller, filler, and
spiller that will go into the pot. Make sure varieties you
choose not only go well together, but that they are eye
appealing.
/20
In addition to making your own design, and in order to
receive full points, make sure that the plants are placed into
the pots appropriately and that they have the correct level
and compaction of soil. All plants included in the design must
have their tags in the pot, and remember to add Osmocote.
Seed Germination A key component of the greenhouse is the utilization of the /20
germination chamber. Although most of our flowers are
grown from plugs, the majority of the vegetable plants and
herbs are started here from seed. Your responsibility is to
correctly plant seeds in the germinating trays. Seeds should
be spaced out uniformly in their rows, with adequate soil
covering them.
