Multimedia Food and My Family Kitchen Rules Project:
IN-CLASS ASSESSMENT NOTIFICATION

TASK OUTLINE:

‘My Family Kitchen Rules’


Brief: You are auditioning for the Reddam House ‘MFKR’ and Reddam House
Cookbook to be produced at the end of Term 2.

Plan and produce a 3-5 min video. You will develop, edit and produce a
multimedia video, which explores your family’s food heritage. You will begin by
researching recipes that are part of your culture and document this in a Food
Journal. During the Term you will also gain valuable cooking knowledge, which
may include a knowledge of nutrition, food preparation and production.

The video will be produced using Computers, iPhones or iPads. It will include
animations produced using exclusive software (iMovie or Premiere Pro) and can
be either a documentary or mockumentary. You will need to plan your video
carefully with brainstorms, storyboarding and appropriate film shots.
The project will utilise a wide range of special effects and successfully employ
editing, scripting, lighting and sound techniques.

You will work on this project individually or in groups of 2-3. However you must
complete the Food Journal & Booklet separately.

Week 1: Food Journal

This term we will be looking at you and your family’s precious recipes as well as
practical tips for making life staples. In your “Food Journal” you should have 5
slides including: “About me & my family”, “Family recipes brainstorm”, 1-2 recipes
you might cook from Brainstorm, the history of this dish. See Google Classroom
for my sample.

Your food movie will be an audition tape for MKR, but the style will be up to
you. You have to decide if it will be serious or silly or a bit of both? Are you
already an influencer trying to make it as a celebrity chef?

We’ve seen a number of Inspirations but …. What makes a great video? Is it:
● A catchy title …. E.g. “Nigella Feasts”,...
● Good Lighting
● Considered Staging (What’s in the background?) Costume?
● A really catchy personality / performance
● A really really catchy introduction/establishing shot and jingle
● A variety of shot types
● A clear storyboard/ plotline
● Cameos? Interviews? With your family or friend/s from the class? An ad-break?
