Lesson 1: Feeding Habits of Animals

Circle true or false. Correct the false statement

1.Carnivores have very complex stomach. (T/F) Simple stomach

2.Herbivores have a stomach made of 4 pouches. (T/F)
3.In order to crush plants, herbivores have well-developed incisors. (T/F)
4.Carnivores like lions, have well-developed canines. (T/F)
5.The structure of the digestive tract does not depend on the diet. (T/F). Depends on the
diet
6. Crop and the gizzard which are found in birds help facilitate digestion. (T/F)
7. All animals have the same digestive tract. (T/F)Different digestive tract
Complete the statements.

8. The dentition of carnivores is distinguished by well developed Canines

9. Herbivores have a stomach made of 4 pouches
10. Birds feed on seeds and use their gizzard that help grind seeds and moisten it in the
crop
11. The digestive tract and dentition of animals depend on the diet.

Lesson 2: Decomposers

Circle the correct answer.

12. Examples of decomposers are:

a) Bacteria, snakes, earthworms
b) Earthworms, fungi, bacteria, ants
c) Ants, fungi, snail
d) Earthworms

13. Decomposers transforms

a) Mineral matter into organic matter
b) Organic matter into litter
c) Organic matter into mineral matter
d) Minerals into vitamins

14. Indicate the definition of litter.

a) Dead leaves and plant and animal debris
b) Mineral matter
c) Humus
d) Decomposers
15. Indicate what happens to litter after decomposition
a) Litter transforms into organic matter
b) Litter transforms into humus
c) Doesn’t undergo changes
d) Becomes wastes and animal debris

16. Indicate the importance of decomposers

a) They get rid of plant an animal debris
b) They transform organic matter into mineral matter
c) They recycle nutrients
d) All of the above

17. The cycle of matter is:

a) A continuous process
b) A process that negatively affects nature
c) A process that causes accumulation of wastes
d) A process that aids in making organic matter

Read the text and answer the questions.

The cycle of matter is like a recycling system in nature. Everything, like air, water, and nutrients,
moves in a loop. Plants take in carbon dioxide from the air during photosynthesis and use it to
make food. Animals eat the plants, and when they breathe or release waste, carbon dioxide goes
back into the air. When plants and animals die, they are broken down by decomposers like
bacteria and fungi. These decomposers turn them into nutrients that go back into the soil. Then,
plants use these nutrients to grow again, and the cycle continues. This makes the cycle of matter
a continuous and interconnected process where recycling of matter occurs.

18. Pick out from the document:

 Examples of decomposers: bacteria and fungi
 Role of decomposers: decomposers break down dead plants and animals and turn them
into nutrients that go back to the soil

19. Justify that the cycle of matter is a continuous process:

Cycle of matter is a continuous process because Matter keeps moving in a loop, getting
reused and changed over and over again in nature by the help of decomposers.

Activity 3: Food Relationships

Answer the following questions

20. Indicate the meaning of the arrow connecting two links in a food chain. Is eaten by
21. Indicate whom occupies the first link in the food chain. The producer
22. Indicate who makes up the second link in a food chain. Consumer

The diagram below represents a food web.

23. Indicate 3 food chains in the food web.

Plants inchwormrobinmerlins
Plantsrobins merlins
Plants rabbits wolves

24. Indicate the primary producer plant

25. Indicate the effect of the disappearance of the rabbit on plants and wolves. The plants will
increase while the wolves will decrease
26. Indicate the effect of the disappearance of merlins on robins, inchworms, and plants.
Robbins will increase, inchworm will decrease, and plants will increase

Read the following and answer the question

Caterpillars and buzzards feed on plants. The buzzard also eats caterpillars and swallows.
Swallows only feed on caterpillars.

27. Connect the food web with “is eaten by arrow”.

Plants Swallows

Buzzard

caterpillar

Activity 4: adaptation of Animals to their Environment

Correct the following statements.

28. The absence of breathing adaptations in animals would not affect their survival.
The absence of breathing adaptations in animals will affect their survival
29. Animals with adaptations in locomotion always move in the same way.
Animals with adaptations in locomotion always move differently.
30. The four modes of adaptation are locomotion, breathing, nutrition, and sleeping.
The four modes of adaptation are locomotion, breathing, nutrition, and reproduction.
31. Nutrition-related adaptations are only necessary for herbivorous animals.
Nutrition-related adaptations are necessary for all animals.
32. Dentition in animals and the shape of the beak in birds are not adapted to their diet.
Dentition in animals and the shape of the beak in birds are adapted to their diet.
33. Animals have the same organs that allow them to move and breathe.
Animals have different organs that allow them to move and breathe.

Answer the following questions

34. Indicate two adaptations to locomotion in animals. Flying and walking

35. Indicate two modes of adaptation to breathing. Gills and lungs

Activity 5: Animal Behavior

Answer the following questions

36. Compare between migration and hibernation.

Hibernation is when animals are in a state of torpor or deep sleep while they wait for the
warm season while migration is when animals flee to other countries in escape of the
winter.
37. Indicate the meaning of torpor and comatose
Torpor and comatose is when the animals vital functions like breathing, body
temperature, and heartbeat are reduced
38. Indicate the behaviors of animals during hibernation
During hibernation, animals go in a state of torpor or comatose.
39. Formulate a hypothesis explaining the causes of each of animal hibernation and animal
migration.
Hypothesis: animals hibernate due to temperature variations and food.
