The following are guidelines based on the evaluations from the Rockwood Pigments
laboratories. They are designed to provide drier combinations for maximising the performance
of coatings. The advice given is established from the steps we would take to achieve effective
performance of a coating.
The first parameter tested is drying. This is done by Beck-Koller drier recorders using a known
cobalt drier based combination as a standard. Further parameters such as colour, hardness
development and storage stability are measured when effective drying has been achieved.
For each coating tested the following actions will be taken sequentially until effective drying
performance is achieved.
5) Adjust the Calcium, most often to reduce the loading. Partial replacement with
Strontium 24 / 18 can be considered.
6) Use the new additive DryXtra. The earlier this is added in the process the better.
Addition rate is 0.1 – 0.3%. 0.4% also works but leads to higher yellowing.
Nuodex DryCoat is more effective when in combination with the basic metal driers Durham
Calcium 10 and Durham Strontium 24 / 18.
