Definition
Early in 20th century, the Italian art movement known as futurism sought to depict through
art, the vitality and dynamic of the modern world.

Futurism in Fashion
The word "futuristic" is frequently used in the fashion industry to characterize avant-garde
clothing designs. It might be referring to the fabric used, production process, or design of the
apparel, among other things.

Description
Particularly in the 20th century, futurism in fashion represented a shift towards leaving the
past behind and experimenting with ideas for the future. This evolved across the years and
eras. Futurism used to have an industrial, mechanical aspect, but these days it often features
textiles and designs that seem to come from another planet.
Retro Futurism, which is what we now call the 1950s and 1960s concept of futurism and is
frequently depicted in old movies and comic books.
Futurism in the 2010s drew inspiration from "dystopian perspectives," while 2020's futurism,
according to trend forecasting director Emma Chiu, is expected to be more optimistic and
connected to alternate realities and "defying time, space, [and] matter."
