1. Responding To The Story

a. I think most of the stories are long and have a lot of characters, identify
places and have more symbols and more explanation. I think the author
chose this style to come to the point. Also, just give the main moral.
b. I think most of the fairy tales talk about a love relationship between a
prince and princess and how they overcome evil, but in this it shows more
about choosing the right person and in a different way.
c. The king and queen were looking for someone that will beat the princess
in whistling. The princess was looking for someone that would agree that
was defeated but will stand equal to her.
d. I think it would stand as a disgrace because her parents thought she won't
be able to find a husband, if she whistled. Also, the king was upset that
she had beaten all the suitors and thought she would never marry
because of the whistle.
e. I think the message of the story is that women should have a chance to
choose her own future husband. This is the message, because in India
women are not allowed to take any decisions about the future as her
parents decide who she should marry and what she should do. The story
starts with the princess' parents worried about her whistling and tells her to
stop. The same goes for many women in India as they are not allowed to
do anything that they like rather they should do what her parents or others
think.

2. Media Maker

Dear Dr. Thompson,

I need your help and advice in finding a wife. I have tried and seen too many women but
nothing is working out properly. I would love to start my own family and live a love life. I
am waiting for a reply from you soon.
Thanks,
Thomas Sebastian

1. Responding To The Story

a. Neddie was pulling a switch and then the earthquake had started. The
boy's mother was making bread. The boy’s father was thinking how the
family should not have moved to the old house before the work was done.
b. Jack Hodgins was referring to the readers as he uses “you” in the first
paragraph. This is an effective way to start the story, as the readers will
wonder what has happened back in 1946.
c. The tone of the story is suspenseful and sad. The first paragraph has a lot
of suspense in it which sets the tone for the whole story
d.
e. - Trees falling down
- Houses and buildings collapsing
- The earth is shaking
- Animals bursts
- Everything shatters

My first impression of an earthquake will be very scary and frightening. It will be scary if
the earthquake is a big one as the buildings will collapse. I will be worried about my life
and my loved one’s lives too. Also, I will be trying to save myself and other ones around
me. This will be my first impression of an earthquake.

3. Researching

Richter scale is a measure where you measure how dand=gerous the earthquake is. It
goes from 1 - 10. 1 - 5 measure earthquakes can quake little damage. 6 - 10 measured
earthquakes can be absolutely dangerous and scary. They can destroy mostly
everything. 10 measured earthquakes have never happened. Earthquakes usually
happen when underground rocks break and sudden release of energy cause the
seismic waves that make the ground shake.
