CENTRE FOR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS AND TECHNOLOGY (CIPR&T)

The Centre for Intellectual Property Rights and Technology is a student run initiative, established in the
year 2017. The Centre was established with 2 main objectives – to create a platform for protection,
analysis, licensing, education and policy formulation in the field of IPR and Technology; to serve as a
Think tank to provide policy inputs in the said field at National, Regional and International Level.

The Centre initially began as a body organising seminars, lectures, events and quiz competitions in the
subject of IPR and Technology at various levels and to now as an organized and professional student led
team engaging actively in several research projects, assisting the government and other agencies and
also actively undertaking tasks of social responsibility and societal welfare.

The Centre has undertaken the initiative of applying a Geographical Indication Tag for a very popular
Andhra sweet delicacy, Athreyapuram Putharekulu, with regards to which our members made several
visits to the Athreyapuram village and conducted awareness sessions and they have successfully filed
the GI application for the same. The Centre aims to achieve GI recognition for many more such items.
The Team of CIPR&T have also assisted the Department of Justice, Ministry of Legal Affairs to Study the
Functioning of the Commercial Courts in the Southern Region of India including the states of Karnataka,
Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Kerala, where the members acted as the researchers and
research assistants and gathered 300+ responses from the target audience. The Centre has presented its
research findings to the Department on the First of Jan 2023.

The Centre also has a Journal – DSNLU Journal of Science, Technology and Law – under it, aimed at
encouraging students and academicians to voice their views on IPR and Technology. The Centre hosts
several activities like Quizzes and Workshops associated with IPR and Technology. A national level IPR
Quiz competition is one of the Flagship Events of CIPR&T, organized in memory of our late President APJ
Abdul Kalam.
