1. Introduction
1.1 Background and Motivation
DC-DC converters are widely used in various applications, such as power supplies, electric
vehicles, and renewable energy systems, to efficiently convert and regulate voltage
levels. Fractional order control (FOC) systems have gained increasing attention due to their
potential benefits in providing better performance, robustness, and adaptability compared to
traditional integer order control systems. Intelligent control techniques, such as fuzzy
logic, neural networks, and genetic algorithms, are promising tools for improving the
performance of fractional order DC-DC converters. This study aims to explore the potential
of intelligent control techniques in enhancing the performance of fractional order DC-DC
converters.
1.2 Problem Statement
The main problem addressed in this study is the lack of advanced control strategies for
fractional order DC-DC converters that can improve their performance, stability, and
efficiency. The existing control techniques suffer from limitations, such as sensitivity to model
uncertainties and external disturbances, which motivate the need for intelligent control
methods.
1.3 Objectives
The main objectives of this study are to:
1. Investigate the state of the art in intelligent control of fractional order DC-DC converters.
2. Propose a novel intelligent control method for fractional order DC-DC converters.
3. Validate the proposed control algorithm through simulation and experimental results.
1.4 Scope and Limitations
This study focuses on the development and implementation of an intelligent control method
for fractional order DC-DC converters. The scope of the study is limited to the investigation of
a single type of DC-DC converter and a specific intelligent control technique. However, the
proposed control method can be extended to other types of converters and intelligent control
techniques.
1.5 Organization of the Study
The rest of the study is organized as follows: Chapter 2 presents a literature review on DC-DC
converters, fractional order control systems, intelligent control techniques, and the state of
the art in intelligent control of fractional order DC-DC converters. Chapter 3 describes the
proposed intelligent control method, including the design of the control algorithm, the
selection of the intelligent control technique, and the implementation and tuning of the
intelligent controller. Chapter 4 presents simulation and experimental results to validate the
proposed control method and compares its performance with existing techniques. Finally,
Chapter 5 concludes the study with a summary of the findings, contributions, and suggestions
for future work.
