Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire

Thesis Statement: Critical consciousness makes people aware of their power in order to

shape their reality and be able to cooperate to build a society that is more just and equitable.

II. SUMMARY

A. Arguments that lead the education system to be problematic and less effective.

B. The concept of “banking system” describes the way students are taught.

C. The idea of praxis which defines the intersection of theory and practice.

III. BODY 1

A. People get fooled quickly by superficial and shiny actions that tend to fade in the

short run.

B. The oppressors find ways to take advantage of the oppressed people by hidden

agenda, propaganda, ingenuity, and the ability to influence other people on helping

the oppressed, but in the correct way.

IV. BODY 2

A. A person can only have two choices when it comes to instances that concern the

welfare of other people; support or be against.


B. The fitting type of education for the oppressed is mainly education that serves their

interests.

C. Fatalism in religion is commonly portrayed as the truth and the predetermined future.

V. CONCLUSION

A. The oppressors continue to inflict pain because these people always see a blind spot in

the point of view of the community.

B. Oppressed people are still oppressed because it is either they do not have the

capability to speak for themselves or other people don't want to be involved.
