Boyle’s Law

Introduction
Boyle’s law is a gas law which states that the pressure
exerted by a gas (of a given mass, kept at a constant
temperature) is inversely proportional to the volume
occupied by it. In other words, the pressure and volume
of a gas are inversely proportional to each other as long
as the temperature and the quantity of gas are kept
constant. Boyle’s law was put forward by the Anglo-
Irish chemist Robert Boyle in the year 1662
Procedure
Take a large piston or sealed syringe and stand it on end, then place an
increasing number of objects on top. As the pressure grows, the
volume of the air inside will decrease—these quantities are inversely
proportional.

Objective
The objective of this experiment is to study the relationship between
the pressure and volume of an air sample at constant temperature. This
will be done by measuring the pressure of a constant amount of air
contained in a cylinder as the volume of the air.
