Good day! I am Aaron Zulueta and today I will discuss the MS Access environment basic parts.
MS Access was officially launched in November 1992. Microsoft Access is a well-known
database management system that is included in the Microsoft 365 office suite. It incorporates
the relational Jet Database Engine from Microsoft with tools for software development and a
graphical user interface (GUI).

Let’s open the MS Access in our computer.

After opening the MS Access, we can see the recent files that we created (if someone already
used the application), and on the other side is the different templates for creating database
system.
Select the “Blank desktop database”. After selecting, we will see the blank database.

I already created a file and now we are going to discuss its basic parts and functions.

1. This is the ribbon tab of MS Access. The ribbon is the primary replacement for menus
and toolbars and provides the main command interface in Access. One of the main
advantages of the ribbon is that it consolidates, in one place, those tasks or entry points
that used to require menus, toolbars, task panes, and other UI components to display. This
way, you have one place in which to look for commands, instead of a multitude of places.
The commands that are available on the ribbon also reflect the currently active object.
For example, if you have a table opened in Datasheet view and you click Form on the
Create tab, in the Forms group, Access creates the form, based on the active table.
2. This is the field name of the table. A field name identifies the field to both you and to
Microsoft Access It allows us to put different attributes that we are going to input in our
table. For example, I inputted Pt Med Rec #, Pt First Name, Pt Last Name, Pt Gender, Pt
Birth date, and Pt Phone #.
3. This is the data types what will be inputted on the attributes. For example, in the Pt Birth
Date attribute, the current data type is Date & Time because the data that will be inputted
is date. If you want number only, you can select the ‘number’ data type.
4. This is the records we input in our table.
5. This is the table name. The name of my table is Patients.
6. This is the object tab. Similar to paper forms, Access forms are objects through which
you or other users can add, edit, or display the data stored in your Access desktop
database.
