1. What are input devices?
Ans- An input device is a piece of hardware used to provide data to a computer used for
interaction and control.  It allows the input of raw data to the computer for processing.
Examples are- keyboard, mouse, scanner, joy stick, track ball, light pen.

2. Write the use of following devices


a. Webcam- webcam is a device attached with a laptop or installed separately for
desktop that allows the recording of events in front of the computer or for video
chatting on a desktop/laptop computer
b. Microphone- It is an input device used to take sound inputs. It may use to take voice
inputs, sound inputs for storage inside a computer. It has many applications like
telephone, hearing aids etc.
c. Digital Camera- A digital camera is used to capture pictures digitally. It stores the
pictures in memory chip.it is also known as digicam.
d. MICR- Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) is a technique that enables
special characters printed in magnetic ink to be read and input rapidly to a computer.
MICR is used to verify the legitimacy or originality of paper documents, especially
checks
e. Graphics Tablet- A graphics tablet (also known as a digitizer) is a computer input
device that enables a user to hand-draw images, animations and graphics, with a
special pen-like stylus, similar to the way a person draws images with a pencil and
paper. These tablets may also be used to capture data or handwritten signatures.
3. Write a short note on smart card reader.
Ans- Smart card readers are used with smart cards which are a type of plastic technology card
with a built-in chip used for electronic processes including personal identification, access
control, authentication, and financial transactions. There are two types: memory cards and
microprocessors cards.

Ans- Processing in a computer means manipulation of data by a computer. It includes the

6. What do you mean by customised software? Give examples.


Ans- Customised software ( also known as tailor-made software) is software that is
specially developed for some specific organization or other user. For example- Library
management system, hospital management system.

7. Define application software and its examples.


Ans- Applications software is capable of dealing with user inputs and helps the user to
complete the task. It is also called end-user programs or only an app. For example- Word
processing software, Spreadsheets Software, Presentation, Graphics, CAD/CAM.

8. Define an operating system. Give two examples of operating system.


Ans- An operating system (OS) is system software that manages computer hardware,
software resources, and provides common services for computer programs. It provides an
interface between user and machine. For example- Windows, Linux, Unix, Mac.

9. What is the use of Disk Clean-up programs?


Ans- Disk Clean-up helps free up space on your hard disk, creating improved system
performance.

10. How do you restart a computer System?


Ans- Go to Start, select the Power button, and then select Restart.
