1 General

- The serration is tested using gauges.

Secondary measuring met hod: diametrical 2-ball gauge (= check gauge P, not applicable w ith type
C)

- The stated deviations for the check gauge P incorporat e the design-inherent profile displacement s
plus all pit ch, tooth thickness and flank errors.

- In CAD, all serrations must be illustrated w ith mean deviations.

- Design of a serration (types A, B and D) in mean tolerance position:

Calculation of pitch angle w ith the aid of the number of teeth.
Calculation of mean addendum circle, root circle and check gauge P and inclusion in draw ing,
measurement w ire diameter included in draw ing.
Plot the tooth profiles w it h angle β, plot mean tip and root radii.
The E types are involute toot hings. In t his case the special flank profile must be taken int o account
(consult gear specialist!)

- Galvanised st eel parts:

To improve the corrosion protection (e.g. for overseas shipment), steel crank bolt s can be
galvanised. The coating t hickness is at least 6µ.
Generally speaking, the rough dimensions of the serration must be reduced for all steel crank bolts
designated f or galvanisation. For all serrations, versions w ith reduced rough dimensions can be
found under the serial numbers ending w ith 5.
(A10 → A15, A20 → A25, etc.)
